My favorite DS album... Jeff Porcaro on drums! my copy sounds fantastic... a couple of minor crackles but otherwise amazing clarity

First off, this is one hell of pressing! Probably one of my best of my collection of over 800 at the moment. Love it. Musically, I love the groove and atmosphere that Dire Straits has created on this one. Great record. Highly recommended!

This is an awesome but often overlooked tour de force by a super group with the time to do it right.

I have now compared six different editions of this record. this UK pressing, another European pressing from 1991, US 1991, Finland 1991, Back to Black Chris Bellman cut from 2020, and finally the MoFi 2024.

I had high expectations for the MoFi since their version of the Brothers in Arms album is absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, the MoFi was a disappointment, and actually, the clear winner among all these is this UK pressing. The other three records I heard from 1991 aren't bad either, but this one has the best dynamics, punchy bass and kick drum, everything sounds really good and natural. The dynamics are especially noticeable on the song "On Every Street", which starts quietly but ends very loudly. For example, in the MoFi version, the volume level was compressed.

This record is just cut at a low volume level due to its length, but when you turn up the volume, it shows its magic.

Compared to the CB cut 2 x 33rpm 2021 Rhino, the MOFI is cleaner sounding, has better detail, dynamics and the better quality vinyl is much quieter. But for tonality, it sounds somewhat analytical and not as engaging by comparison.

The CB cut is more musical, but it veils some of the fine details in the mix. Also, the 2021 Rhino pressings have notoriously iffy QC for the vinyl as I and many others have discovered.

If you are a big Dire Straits fan and are into vinyl, then the MOFI is worth it - You’ll just need to turn the volume up to bring it to life as it’s cut to maximize dynamics, and when you do, it rewards the listener with a truthful, detailed and well controlled presentation.

QC wise, both my records spin dead flat and were near silent (which is how it should be at this price point) and the gatefold and artwork are on par for the asking price.

My only complaint is that it lacks that little bit of mastering magic that made MOFI’s Brothers in Arms release so incredible.

Sounds pretty good for a cassette tape classic Dire Straits

MFSL doesn't boost the lows, they just leave them where they are. I compared this to the original domestic cd issue, and it sounds fuller and warmer, while that cd lacks the low end and is too bright overall.
