Due to the layout of the labels (particularly the rim text), this is more of a mid-90s release than an 80s release.

To say this release is confusing would be an understatement, especially since there's no equivalent 'Made In Canada' repress of the red album (at least to my knowledge)

I decided to bite the bullet on this one for Christmas, seeing as my only other copy of this album was a beat up Capitol US press. My copy ended up coming with a 'clean intro' to A Day In The Life, which is odd since there's some people who have reported that this release had a 'fade in intro' to A Day In The Life, yet others had gotten a 'clean intro' copy as well. The reason this is significant is it's a possible indication of the audio source for this mysterious reissue (2010 digital remaster? 2014 analog lacquers? Digital transfer of the tapes used for the 2014 press?). Lady Madonna did have a cut-off fade out, which others have mentioned was only fixed with the 2009 digital remasters, leading them to believe that this is still an analog press (or at least this release used the digital 'safety transfers' of the analog tapes used for the 2014 lacquers).

Another thing worth noting, while the changes were minimal, the hype sticker was still changed nonetheless ('Analogue' was altered to 'Analog', seeing as this press is directed towards the US market), so there was an opportunity to alter it to mention any digital sources being used (if any were even used to begin with), which I'm pretty sure most recent reissues of Beatles records have been transparent about (2012 reissues, Giles remixes, etc).

I'm not anti-digital or anything, I'd just like some transparency. Seeing as I was working up from an early 70's Capitol press and the 2023 remixes have been a mixed bag for me, I would've still gotten this if '2010 Digital Remasters' was slapped onto the hype sticker.

This pressing is a joy to listen to. Great soundstage with great highs and deep bass, with almost zero surface noise. My only minor criticism is 2 of the discs were slightly warped/dished (not enough to affect playback) and that all 3 centre holes had to be enlarged slightly to fit on the spindle on the deck.

I bought the new blue vinyl limited edition directly from the UK Beatles store only a few days after release. I had it within just 2 days after placing the order. Another 2 days later it showed already as out of stock on the website, so I thought I was lucky to have been one of the last ones to get a copy. But another 2 days later it was then back in stock again (and has been ever since), so I am not sure how limited (and thus collectable) this edition actually is.

The pressing of the discs is very good. No surface noise and only a handful of minor single clicks throughout all 3 discs (it has to be said though that I play the discs always wet (distilled water/ alcohol mix), so there would not be any clicks due to dust or static).

The mixing and mastering of the tracks is very pleasant for listening. Certainly much more so than some of the weird stereo mixes that were issued in the past (especially some of the earlier CD mixes which are a torture to listen to, especially with headphones). There are some differences in the sound between the tracks, but this is only to be expected for a compilation. After all, the recording technology progressed a lot in those 3-4 years covered here, and the 'Abbey Road' tracks sound a lot more polished than the 'Sgt. Peppers' ones for instance. But I think they have done a good job here to minimize the differences.

Having said this, I think the mixing/mastering is slightly bright and could have done with a bit more bass. I haven't heard any of the previous vinyl releases, but this is probably due to the fact that they recorded about 25 min on each side of the first 2 discs, which means the grooves had to be cut with a smaller distance than usual between them, thus forcing them to reduce the bass. The treble on the other hand (important for avoiding sibilance in the vocals) is maintained by the half-speed mastering. In this respect, I think it would have been better to put some of the tracks from the first 2 discs on the 3rd disc (which is very short in comparison). It would have broken the format of the previous vinyl releases, but it may have enabled an even better sounding mix.

Because of the small groove distance/pitch on the first 2 discs, you have to take care to set your anti-skating force of the tonearm very accurately (especially if you play the record with 1.5g or less), otherwise it may skip (I had it skip forward on a couple of tracks with my usual anti-skating setting, so had to increase to increase anti-skating force slightly).

Also, be aware that the hole in the middle of the discs may be slightly small. I had to press them down when putting them on, and then had some problems getting them off again afterwards. I used a small file to make the holes slightly bigger so that I can put the discs on and off without problems. I never had this issue before with any of the hundreds of vinyl records I own, so this is quite unusual.

Despite the small imperfections mentioned, I would certainly recommend this edition of the Blue Album. It may well be the best-sounding release of it yet.

This LP has gone up in price online after the newer versions released (check eBay to see what I mean), but if you can find it for a cheap price than GET IT! All the songs on my copy sound crystal clear and so powerful. I always preferred the Blue album over the Red but they should BOTH be in your collection.

This LP holds a very sentimental place for me even though I have a complete LP collection and this release is the definitive version. I was able to grab this after Giles Martin's remaster was released. Flat, quiet pressing with brilliant sound. These are the stereo mixes as they are meant to be heard, no offense to Giles. Yes, Side 2 is lower in volume to accommodate Hey Jude but just turn up your volume before you drop your needle and enjoy.

Just bought the two sets today and I like what I hear. Yes, all tracks have been remixed like you find on the stand alone albums over the last decade. Gone is the awkward unbalanced 60s stereo sound which can be hard to listen too because of its unnaturalness.
Magical Mystery Tour tracks are also rejigged along with other non album material. It’s fleshed out to 37 tracks and more of a trip now. I already have the 1993 and 2010 CD issues plus old vinyl pressings.
I prefer later era Beatles so this collection is special but you need the 1962-1966 out of curiosity for the new mixes.
