Good pressing - loud and clear- and absolutely essential music. A seminal out-and-out classic of electronic music

There is some low rumble between songs, but any fan should be grateful to own this one. Bugged me that prior to this your two choices were to risk trying to buy the first pressing, and possibly getting the bootleg, that at least here, there is no significant differences listed on, or buy the coverless version, that felt pretty cheap considering what they go for. I tried several times over the years to buy an original pressing, and ran into different issues each time, but very grateful to finally own this one. This is a quintessential record for any electro, techno, industrial, or electronic music fan to own, this is where a lot of things started.

I have this one too. I don't understand the "unofficial" flag..

I was ( and am ) quite a fan of Model 500, but I was disappointed in this release. I felt at the time that the remixes were too much of an attempt to update the sound ( to a euro/rave sound that was popular at the time ) and they lost their original charm ( Electronic remix in particular has all the funk removed )
Now they sound really dated, where as the original are still charming. Also...not the best selection, so certainly not classics.

Pretty sure I have this version - so why is it unofficial? It's on R&S. Was it the artwork that caused the probs? Great album any way.

Where did the remix of No UFO's come from? Did Juan make it just for this compilation?

take a listen to the 5 box set on Network Records Ocean to Ocean sounds dreadful!! i would be ashamed if i made this track and dumped it on a compilation in that quality pops, crackles, dull, muffled, distortion getting worse CD's mastered today

This 2011 Repackaged / Remastered version has a dropout at 1.19 on Ocean To Ocean (Instrumental) , it also keeps the (Mastered from Vinyl?) crackling effect at the start of the track. As an owner of the original Vinyl and CD release this was rather disappointing.

Juan Atkins isn't called the 'godfather of techno' for no reason: this CLASSICS compilation gathers together a selection of his Model 500 work to show off his skills. "No UFOs" has that Detroit electro throb that has become so familiar these days, while "The Chase" has a Latin flair. The synths might sound primitive, but the soul is unmistakably there. "Night Drive (Time, Space, Transmat)" has a funky dreaminess to it and "Electric Entourage" carries hints of Kraftwerk (the grandfathers of techno). "Ocean To Ocean" is sweet and smooth, like a lazy float, and "Sound of Stereo" delves into pure electro. Nearly 25 years later, these track still stand the test of time.
