Reviews
- Edited 3 days agoThe first album (being the second set) released, recorded at Fat Tuesday during a residency 8 - 10 February 1980 (some sources say 5 - 9 February 1980). Live at Fat Tuesday's, February 9, 1980, First Visit is the third set released in April 2024 and Live at Fat Tuesday's, February 10, 1980, First Visit is the fourth set released in October 2024. Knowing a thing or two about Cecil Taylor, i bet all three of them are worth hearing (and owning, i imagine).
Sound qualtiy on the 1990 CD issue is such that it leaves little room for some of the instruments. Perhaps later issues have amended this (somewhat)? A shame nonetheless.
Now that i own the third set as well, i can say that although the sound quality of this performance is somewhat better, the conclusion must be that the acoustics of the venue have a roll to play as well. i wonder what the first set will sound like.
