Rough Diamond (2) – Rough Diamond

The only Rough Diamond album is essentially the definition of a "decent album". Side 1 holds the attention a bit better than side 2, as it begins to drag around the last couple of songs. The is tagged as being "prog rock" on here, but to my ears, this isn't at all progressive rock. There's a few moments of extended isolated piano, and some interesting synth sounds, but not anything that would make this progressive rock. And that isn't a bad thing. It's a hard rock album, just not a great one. I'd say the biggest draws of this album are this specific release's pressing quality along with what can only be described as the "novelty" of a David Byron fronted album. That's no disrespect to the man, but Rough Diamond feels of a project that only the most ardent Uriah Heep (and David Byron) fans would have any interest in. Which is precisely why I own a copy ;)

this is a great remastered cd edition of this lost classic by the late great david byron that was released by sunrise records in germany back in 02006, great fresh loud sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nice to have after decades of owning the original japan copy of the lp from 1977....................

this was a great solo project former uriah heep legand david byron put together in early 1977 after leaving uriah heep, this japan edition sounds great and comes with a lyric sheet with lyrics in both english and japanese, the inlay also has an essay on the band in japanese, this was only released once in 1977 in japan, if you liked byron fronted heep GET THIS RECORD....................
