Beautiful reissue with a rich dinamic sound and high resolution gatefold printing. Its a must-have for progheads in general and RPI fans in particular.

I've just been revisiting my old copy of this record. I know nothing of Area's politics (with which I have no problem), just that this band should be better remembered than it is. This record is consistently great. You can hear the influences or alliances: there's unquestionably a bit of Soft Machine and Mahavishnu Orchestra here, and a touch of King Crimson...but if they were inspired by any of those groups, they don't wear it on their proverbial sleeves. I think there's also a stronger element of humor in Area than those other groups. They could also groove or get funky if they want. Definitely a mid-1970's gem.

1975's Crac is considered Area's accessible album. That is they cut back on experimentation (I still love Caution: Radiation Area, though, as all their albums on the Cramps label) and stuck mainly with incredible, mindblowing fusion playing. Demetrio Stratos providing his usual demented vocals and vocalization. Check out the opening cut, "L'Efante Bianco", with some incredible playing from all-around, plus some Middle Eastern influences show up. "La Mela di Odessa" again consists of more incredible fusion/prog, and there's a funky part, with horns and Demetrio Stratos saying stuff I can't understand (as I don't understand Italian), and just to be silly, the horns play, very briefly, "Taps" (as in the famous bugle song used in the military and during funerals). "Gioia e Rivoluzione" is a big surprise, acoustic guitar, there's an acoustic passage with Demetrio Stratos singing, but there are plenty of electric parts too. Crac! only proves that Area was simply one of the finest prog/fusion acts ever. Their openly communist political views certainly hardly detracts from my enjoyment of their music (as I realize politics can turn off many people). Robert Wyatt and Henry Cow were also openly communist and many in the prog community have high regards for them (and for good reason, for making lots of great music).
