Matrix / Runout (Runout, side B): SRK•2•6095-WW1 #5 ━◁ STERLING
Should I assume it is this main pressing? All other US pressings from 1980 has nothing similar. - Edited 14 days agoIt’s baffling, aggravating, that Rhino (or any company) persists in recycling the same barcode/UPC for different releases of a product, even when their mastering or pressing details differ.
Apparently, there is a 2021 Argentinian issue of Remain In Light. Here:
https://www.discogs.com/release/19937554-Talking-Heads-Remain-In-Light
Frustratingly, for that 2021 reissue, Rhino used the same UPC (081227080211) that it used for this 2006 reissue remastered by Kevin Gray, pressed at RTI in southern California. You can see the potential problem, yah? A seller might receive the 2021 Argentinian reissue from his distributor, rely solely on the jacket’s UPC, then incorrectly list it under the Discogs entry for the 2006 reissue instead. There’s no confirmation yet that the new reissue is just a re-pressing of the 2006 Kevin Gray remaster; further, it was most likely to have been pressed in Europe, not at RTI.
As of today, 10 septembre 2023, there are 32(!) new/sealed copies for sale on Discogs for the 2006 Kevin Gray remaster/reissue. Big red flag, since it’s been 17 years since the Kevin Gray-remastered version was released, and yet there’s still a shiteload of new copies for sale here? Beware - if you order this 2006 KG reissue, make sure you ask the seller if his copy is truly stock from 2006; ask him to confirm his copy bears the silver RTI hype sticker.
* Update - At least one seller confirmed his recently listed copy was mis-listed; it is not the 2021 Argentinian issue. It is actually the 2013 version for the EU. It possibly features the same Kevin Gray remastering as the 2006 reissue did, but it was pressed at Optimal, in Germany, instead of at RTI in California. - Edited 18 days agoAaaargh. For this 2022 Argentinian issue Rhino used the SAME UPC (081227080211) it used for its 2006 reissue remastered by Kevin Gray, pressed at RTI in southern California. You can see the potential problem, yes? A seller might receive this Argentinian reissue from his distributor, rely solely on the printed UPC, and then incorrectly list it under the Discogs entry for the 2006 Kevin Gray reissue instead.
I just checked the entry for the 2006 Kevin Gray remaster/reissue, and incredibly there are 32(!) new, still-sealed copies for sale. Big red flag, since it’s been 17 years since the Kevin Gray-remastered version was released, and yet there is still a shiteload of sealed copies listed here? So beware - if you decide to order that 2006 Kevin Gray/RTI reissue, make sure you ask the seller if his copy is truly stock from 2006; ask him to confirm that his copy bears the silver RTI hype sticker. It’s baffling, aggravating, that Rhino (or any company) persists in recycling the SAME barcode/UPC for different releases of a product, even when their mastering or pressing details differ. - So I asume this matrix version (finished in [...]03* and released in 1985) is the one without "The Great Curve" beginning clipped, right?

I had the recent 2013 Rhino press of this magnificent album, but this beats it easily. Sounds bloody fantastic.- Edited one month agoThis is the pressing to get for sure! The pressing is fantastic, the sound from your speakers will blow you away! I don't care what system you have, it's just that good. As far as the music, this to me is their best album. This album is a masterpiece plain and simple, each song has their own sound to it, typical for the heads. Brian Eno formerly of Roxy Music co-wrote all songs with Ferry. "Once in a lifetime" is the number one hit on the album but seriously all the songs are number ones, it's that good. This is a go to in my collection, can't get enough.
- The needle skips on a certain part of Houses of Motion on Side B. Anyone else have this problem? Other than that my pressing sounds great, with a couple clicks here and there. Side A sounds perfect
- ive waited for years to come across an original VG+/~NM copy and man it sounds incredible, its just so clean
- Edited 3 months agoJust FYI, these are being sold at the Remain in Light tour shows, autographed by Harrison and Belew. I've not had a chance to listen to it yet, but I bought it for the memories more than the music. The original Japanese press is surely better.
That said, someone ought to do a really high quality press of this extraordinary album. referencing Remain In Light (LP, Album, Stereo) 202 980
I still love 'Remain in light'. But when I put this LP back on after 30 years in mint condition, I was irritated. The sound was quite bad at first listen and not as I had hoped, much fuller and more differentiated than the 1997 CD. It sounds like the bass and mids have been forgotten and the treble is a bit shrill. I can't imagine that this is supposed to be a particular artistic expression of Eno and Byrne. In contrast, Steven Wilson's LPs or Pierre Moerlen's Gong from 1979 sound outstandingly good. So it can't be due to the sound system and it can't be due to my ears either. Are there perhaps versions of "Remain in light" that sound better?
