Mine has :-
Side 1 runout stamped CBS32542 A3 & handwritten identifier blotted out.
Side 2 stamped 32542 & handwritten CBS & (upside down) 187093 5

Mine has just a hand scratched CBS 32542 A3 on side 1 & side 2 has two stamps CBS 32542 B3, CBS 86061 B3 & 2nd one hand scratched.

This pressing sounds awesome, far better than the german and dutch pressings I had (which were harder on the ear). Great pressing too, highly recommended!

Wow. Sounds very good. Excellent balance of frequencies, good spatialization and great dynamics for this remaster. A great pressing for a great album (no unwanted crackle spoils the fun). Well done MPO !

Top three Boss album for me. This is a great pressing of it too, and can be had at a very reasonable price.

Great sonics on the TML lacquer. Very open and airy, especially on Racing. Nice wide soundstage. Excellent balance of all the instruments. Lacks some of the punch that the Japanese first pressing has and late 70s US vinyl leaves quite a bit to be desired compared to the Japanese counterparts. But this still remains tops in my book for Darkness. The 2014 remasters are good in many respects but introduced sibilance in the vocals of several songs (Darkness and Racing in particular). This one gets right to that edge but pulls back before it gets bad. But it's hard to find a clean copy of this pressing...this refers to a runout similar to Variant 1 but with T 1F, 2H (associated with the Santa Maria WLP entry).

Dead quiet vinyl. Slightly rolled off high frequencies and a slightly more narrow soundstage compared to the US WLP (TML lacquer) which still reigns king for Darkness (if you can find a clean copy). I think they may have been trying to tame the sibilance in the vocals that plague the recording a little (or it's possible Japan had a slightly inferior source tape, assuming this is different mastering from the US version). So if you find that to be a problem on your system for the title track or Racing, this might be your pressing. But this is a really nice listen as well. Plenty of punch to the drums and bass. When Garry comes in on Racing followed by Max's toms, and when Max hits that double shot on his snare in Darkness, it just explodes! Nice midrange here as well.
