Listening to Schwingungen for the very first time and only just found out that Manuel Göttsching died a matter of weeks ago! Can't believe it.

Anyway I wasn't overly impressed by the opening track. They've clearly listened to Fleetwood Mac's Albatross then the guitarist, deft though he is, utilises some Kossoff-styled vibrato and a touch of Led Zep 1-era Jimmy Page. During the second track of Side One I started thinking well this is crap, like any old bunch of stoned people jamming in a garage. BUT then...
By the end I was WELL into it. Currently getting into Side Two now...yeahhhh, maan. Although again, have to say, they're keen copyists. Structurally, aesthetically, it's a re-tread of the Floyd track A Saucerful Of Secrets with the spacey intro eventually merging into pounding drums then ultimately arriving awkwardly at an irregular cycle round straight major and minor triads which crescendo before a long fade. They just took longer than Floyd did (a whole side), that's all.
A tad disappointed as I usually like the completely new territory explored by German bands at this time. This one's pretty derivative.

It looks like this is the only issue worth having given its official release and Manuel's overseeing of the cut (presumably they mean the mastering). Mine was crackly on and off for several minutes of track one on Side One but the second track was fine and Side Two is ALL fine. So, given there are varying results from reviewer to reviewer, I'm pretty certain the accepted test pressings were clean.
The bass is indeed distorted halfway through Side Two. Pretty convinced that'll be on the master. Engineer in 1972 will've been stoned and getting off on the buzz! The drums on Side Two when they get going towards the end are compressed way too much. Considering there'll have been minimal production and very little overdubbing if any, it's pretty lame than no one was 'sober' enough to listen back to it with a critical ear.
At least we have it though. :)

EDIT: Wet cleaning the album a second time and surface noise is down to just one single pop!!

Is this mastered from vinyl? I have the licensed Belle Antique release and I can hear quite a lot of faint clicks. Most notable at Track 1 0:05 and on Track 3 between 04:30-07:30.

I'm wondering if I got a pirated copy? Same info as the 50th anniversary edition, but it has a lot of surface noise and a distorted bass in the right channel!

Fantastic sounding reissue! It sounds as good as an original. Flat and silent pressing, at least my copy is.

The print of this reissue is not good. After two washings it still has surface noise as if it were an old record.

Soundwise I find it weak too, by comparison for example with the re-releases of Gentle Giant.
Obviously I couldn't say whether this is poor engeniering or faded tapes or original recording being not good, but I can compare to the first record of this band which I own as the original issue, and that is better by far.
Not exactly an audiophile desert. I recommend against it.

Wonderful record, but is it really their best?
I'd say 'Join Inn', which once again features Klaus Schulze, is their finest album, but 'Schwingungen' certainly runs it close.
All five of their albums are excellent, I recommend them to anyone exploring the wonderful world of 1970's Cosmic Krautrock !

Real deal—analog sourced reissue this is now its done! The record sounds incredible as it should. I’d say this is the ultimate version of this record I’ve heard.

Pressed at Optimal in Germany, mines perfectly flat and sounds good.

Nicely done reissue indeed! Usually I'm very critical with these kind of reissues, but here's hardly anything to complain about, neither sound nor pressing.
