This seems to be a real mess of an album. Too bad, because it is a Gilbert Kong mastering job and has excellent sound. So what's so wrong with this album? First, there are multiple singers, but I don't think any of them have good voices. Especially a guy named Larry Miller, who starts out singing the longest song on the album, "You Give to Me," which has pretty awful lyrics anyway. His voice is boring and delivery is just out of key, and the track does not get any better when it kicks into high gear with a long-winded trombone solo. I didn't really care for the lyrics on the album as a whole. One song is just about a guy getting married, and that's pretty much the entire substance of the song. "Hey mom and dad, I'm getting married, so why don't you roll on up and check out me and my new bride." Well, I am paraphrasing, but hopefully you get the point. "Broken Guitar Blues" seems to be about the travails of boarding a plane with a broken guitar. I mean, wow. The only song that I found somewhat engaging lyrically was "Merlin," which is also probably the best-arranged song on the LP. There's not much here in the melodies department either, nothing that really draws you in and makes you want to play the song over and over again. Also, most of the time, the arrangements are muddled, overly brassy, overly string-ey, you name it. Yeah, as the other reviewer indicated, this record does not have a whole lot going for it. Avoid.
