This album is not only the first record I ever bought online it’s the first thing I ever bought online back in 1997. Happy to have a copy! Great songs, kind of sounds like crap to be honest.

After doing a comparison on computer of the soundwaves of the version of Strawberry Wine from the original single and the version on this compilation (both taken from official vinyl releases), they are pretty much identical. They may have been a mastered a few minutes apart, but they sound pretty much identical and the soundwaves on computer are very very similar. Or maybe they were technically different mixes done a few minutes apart but you'd never know it when you hear them and you can't tell when looking at the waveform. For all practical purposes, its the same version, despite what's been reported.

TBH, if there are glossy cover versions with an RTD sticker on them, that does strongly suggest that there were indeed two originals: one matte, one glossy.

After comparing the wave forms of Strawberry Wine on this compilation (on vinyl) and the original single of Strawberry Wine (also vinyl) the differences are very hard to discern aurally or visually. Kevin Shields has said that when Lazy put out this compilation (without his permission or knowledge) they used the wrong mix of Strawberry Wine. The two versions are so close that if they are different versions, they were mixed within a few minutes of each other. Any differences between the two versions of Strawberry Wine most likely comes down to the mastering as they are so similar. So don't expect any revelations if you shell out a bunch of money for the Strawberry Wine single. But of course it worth buying just as for its own sake as a collectible object, to me anyways.

It is stated in the notes "Exact copy but for the runouts; NP is missing" Surely it should state NS not NP.

It's a real mystery to me why this album gets basically ignored in the mbv canon. Firstly there are some fantastic songs in there, and secondly, it works perfectly as an album. I know the original 'vision' was for a mini LP and 12", but come on, these are the same sessions, probably written and recorded at the exact same time. It's clearly an album. Kevin and the Lazy Records crew had a falling out over that idea, and now it has forever been disowned by him. But surely the fans can see through that, and see this as the band's 'proper' debut. It kind of irritates me a little that Isn't Anything is called the debut, when it's arguably the band's 3rd stab at it (though the 84 'album' really bears no resemblance to what came later, both in sound and personnel). It's high time this era (and the EPs that came just prior) are given more attention. They're an essential part of a fascinating story.

Total treblefest - by far the brightest sounding LP I've ever owned. I remember a mate in the '90s lending me a tape copy he'd made from vinyl, I assumed somebody had got the bias wrong or there was some other cock-up with the recording. Nope. Instant tinnitus. I mostly use it for assessing hi-fi.

I just got a copy of this - not sure if it's a legit release though from "Lazy", as I'm told they long since packed up. does anyone have an idea of where/who pressed this? The audio quality indicates its a decent pressing from a good source (possibly CD) but i'm wondering if this is an official release.
