- Edited one month agoThose that say that Cecil Taylor is nothing but atonal bluster, has no sense of jazz tradition and doesn't swing at all, has never heard his first three records as a leader, of which this is the first. Taking on Porter, Monk and Ellington next to three originals, Taylor easily dispels all three notions mentioned above.
It's easy to say what Taylor doesn't do. It's a little harder to say what he does do. The standards illustrate best what his modus operandi is; he takes the tune apart and puts it back together in a way, that leaves you guessing what tune it is you're actually listening to. It's slightly disorienting, like a Frank Gehry building. That doesn't mean though, that this album is all that difficult to get into. Start here and move forward, perhaps it'll work! referencing Jazz Advance (LP, Album) TRLP 19
Hopefully reissued soon like some of the other Transition records- Hello,
I still have not received the shipment yet. There has certainly been a problem with transportation .
You could do some research with the agency?
I hope your answer. Greetings. referencing Jazz Advance (LP, Album) TRLP 19
Kind of amazing that there’s only been one vinyl pressing (in 1957!) of this in the US.
