Johnny Cash – Johnny Cash At San Quentin

My inner sleeve has advertisements from late 1971 to early 1972 albums.
Probably a 1972 release based on this.

Hello, I have this, but it seems it's a different edition, Mine has a card case where the usual jewel case is inserted and the disc is a replica of the vinyl. The card case has the picture of the original album and a note saying: The Vinyl Classics

Reel-To-Reel, 3 ¾ ips, ¼", 4-Track Stereo
The reel edition has silence spliced in between the tracks - it kind of interrupts the flow of a live recording.

Emotive performance and nice recording/mastering for a live show in the sixties, specially of voice and guitar: sounds intimate and real as it surely was. I've always loved that they included both performances of 'San Quentin' which portray different emotional reactions/appreciations from inmates each time, IMO the first time is more visceral and the second is more thoughtful.

Too bad for the censor beeps and the mix cutouts of B5 that makes the track stay short as the outro of the whole touching concert.

Does anybody know if there is an uncensored LP version (espacially A Boy Named Sue). I've got 4 different versions and all censored.

Had the Sundazed KPG QRP pressing... This beats it, pretty handily. Takes the original charming but flawed recording and puts it on vinyl with warts and all. But it's smooth and AAA sounding whereas the KPG sounds somewhat digital with a smaller flatter stage.

This is a stellar live set by Johnny Cash at San Quentin prison. He is a brilliant storyteller; his conversational stage patter endears himself to his audience. The crowd is lively, which adds positive energy to the performance.

I wish there were more songs, but everything on here is meaningful and...well executed (no pun intended).

Highlights are "Boy Named Sue", "San Quentin"(#2), and "Peace in the Valley", which is marvelous. Some background vocals by June Carter.

Recording is clean. Great sounding pressing.

Recommended.

Does anyone know if a full-concert version was released on LP?

I know Sony/Legacy did a double LP of the first Folsom show, so I'd be kinda surprised if one hasn't been done for SQ, but I can't seem to find it. Thanks!

Non sono sicuro che la versione che ho trovato oggi sia questa comunque è britannica della CBS. La data è 1969 e i codici coincidono.
E' la scritta " CBS " che mi da dei dubbi, sembra essere più recente, anche se nelle versioni meno datate non risulta. In ogni caso un vinile con i brani di J. Cash che fanno dimenticare per tutta la loro durata, San Quentin. Cash intrattiene con sapienza.
