- Edited 3 years agoIt seems to me that "Carplos" is a play on (Walter/Wendy) Carlos and maybe "plus", as the wonderful sounds used remind strongly of W. C.'s early use of the Moog synthesizer, besides this tracks reminds of classical/baroque music.
- Wonderful pressing&mastering! A magically beautiful album by one of bjorks frequent collaborators! An essential album if you appreciate "interesting" music, or love electronic sounds and wonderful vocals!
Im actually surprised theres so many for so cheap floating around. Definitely snatch this up if you can&research Leila! - After a long absence, Leila re-emerges on Warp with BLOOD, LOOMS & BLOOMS. The grinding and twinkling on "Mollie" shows she's not lost her taste for abstraction, and Terry Hall's appearance on "Time to Blow" demonstrates her love of setting vocals into strange settings. For definitive proof, listen to the the little wisps of vocals that punctuate the bizarro breaks on "Little Acorns," or how the over-poetic torch song "Daisies, Cats And Spacemen" stretches out over the drum breaks and plucked bass. Leila also expands her sonic palette, diving head-first into jangly noise guitars with "Mettle," or the slinky Yma Sumac-like "The Exotics" (with Ninja Tune staple Seaming To standing in for Sumac). But the mutant R&B that marked her first albums is still here (along with vocalist Luca Santucci) on "Teases Me," as is the off-kilter wobbliness, like "Lush Dolphins," and neo-classical sensibilities ("Young Ones"). But even better yet is the new: Martina Topley-Bird offering her voice for "Deflect" (which sort of rocks out) and "Why Should I?," which has a archaic beauty. A totally fascinating album.
