- Edited 3 years agoI agree with the comments below, but I think it would be more fair to note that "Higher Than The Sun" is the highlight in The Orb's career. Don't get me wrong, this is Primal Scream's greatest ever song by far, but it's The Orb that make it that way. They turned a decent little atmospheric demo into this transcendent yet dark anthem for the ages. Weatherall's "American Spring" mix is excellent too, making the song even spookier and more bizarre than the original. As a lifelong fan of dance music, what makes this record special for me is that the two greatest remixers of our time are on the same record here, both showing off their insane and otherworldly talents. This record is an absolute must-have in any collection -- a song that never ages.
- The quality of this on vinyl still gives me a thrill, this is almost like a dream, not sure if there are re-issues but the original production would be hard to beat.
- Edited 7 years agoFor those who care, this promo lists the "American Spring Mix" as the second track on the b-side, but it's actually the extended Orb 12" remix you can find on the commercial 12".
- Edited 16 years agoBlew my away first time I heard it, and instantly became one of my all time favourite songs. Dark and dreamy melody combined with great lyrics. It has to do with hallucinogens, but also about the human spirit. "I've glimpsed, I have tasted, fantastical places. My souls an oasis, higher than the sun."
The remixes are okay, but nothing can compare with the true original. Undoubtly the higlight in Primal Scream's career.
