Notes
Trans-Europe Express (German: Trans Europa Express) is the sixth studio album by German electronic band Kraftwerk. Recorded in 1976 in Düsseldorf, Germany, the album was released in March 1977 on Kling Klang (US release date Mar. 14, 1977).
Trans Europa Express/Trans-Europe Express was the first Kraftwerk album to be mixed in two entirely separate versions, one in German, the other in English. In addition, a French language version of 'Showroom Dummies' entitled 'Les Mannequins' was included on the French, Belgian & Greek pressings of the album (which otherwise features the English mix).
Most German pressings (as well as the 2009 remastered reissues) list 'Metall Auf Metall' as two separate tracks, the second part entitled 'Abzug'. Most other versions only list 'Metal On Metal', but include both tracks.
The original German pressing (and many of the other editions) features a monochrome portrait by New York photographer Maurice Seymour, with the group dressed in suits to resemble mannequins. A highly retouched colour photo montage of the group by J. Stara is used for the British, American and other editions. A color collage of the group sitting at a small cafe table designed by Emil Schult was used for the inner sleeve. Most of the 2009 reissues feature a simplified monochrome 'TEE' design.
The original German release includes a colour poster of the Emil Schult image.

- Love this band, love the title tune. The rest of it l can live without (surprisingly dull A-side) (2.5*)

I have had this from new, but it only has a plain paper inner sleeve.- Fabulous pressing, I was blown away by how good this thing sounds, this is absolutely the copy to get if you can get your hands on one.
- Edited 2 months agoSo - I got this copy??? in the 80s in the US - 2nd hand. I just assumed it was a real copy. It is the ONLY one posted on discogs as 1 C 064-82 306 that is not debossed on the back. The outer sleeve is pretty glossy. Mine has a curved-bottom, clear inner sleeve - not picture sleeve - not paper sleeve (but the paper sleeve may have been replaced by the curved-bottom plastic inner sleeve by the original owner. THAT SAID - the matrix number is etched into the runnout. BUT it is very very small and hard to read - it is a stamped matrix number - right up to the label and tiny and hard to read. No poster. I will log mine in as this copy. Even if unofficial - I have Radio-Aktivität and now I need to figure out if it is also unofficial. I just cannot remember if I bought them both at the same time - and I likely did - at the record shop I worked at in the late 80s. I have owned it a long time and trust the other comment here that said it is from a run of several of their other bootleg versions that dropped at the same time. I am not upset if they are unofficial - as they are old and relatively great sounding and glad I own them. I likely got them pretty cheap at the shop I worked at. Definitely hanging on to them for life - and not going to try to replace them with legit copies. No point, at this point. Thanks for all input on this bootleg -But my copy has the very near etching of 823064 A-1 and 823064 B-1 - tiny, and right up to the label. Still confused.... I may have a copy that is not listed???
- I have just played my copy received yesteday and it plays terribly on side 1 with lots of crackles and interference in isolated areas. No improvement after cleaning. Side 2 plays fine. Wish I had seen the review as below as I had already left feedback for the seller on eBay, the copy was sealed.
- Stellar release! Clean, clear and flat record, really nice printed inner sleeve, and a beautiful booklet with some great photos of the band.
