Genesis – Foxtrot

The "Compact Price" strap on the front cover is annoying..

I just bought the 2007 Nick Davis remix and I love it. How does this one sound?
The white text box on this series is woeful I have to say.

As a long time fan of the band, and after buying all the CDs and picking up the vinyl over 33 years I decided to re-examine the Gabriel era. I had this on CD, picture disc in a box set, with Trespass and Nursery Crime but sadly sold it. Anyway those albums didn’t sound great on CD and my vinyl pressings were old! I decided to grab this 2007 Nick Davis remix. Now remixing a catalog as prestigious as Genesis is definitely something that will cause debate!
Anyway, I love version, the bass is far better, tighter and the treble is very nice and you can really hear Phil Collins fiddly hihat and cymbal interplay. Foxtrot is arguably the bands first masterpiece as it introduces a harder rocking sound and ditches a bit of the eccentric storytelling that’s large on the first two albums. This is like hearing the album in a totally new light. Watcher is big and bold and the quiet passages of Get ‘em Out is intimate and more powerful than ever.
Peter Gabriel’s vocal command is grandiose and Tony Banks keyboards are like a highly tuned sports car you love to hear reviving at a race track. The guitars shine too and show off how vital Steve Hackett was to the band in the first era. Foxtrot was always a favorite of mine because the Gabriel material can at times be less accessible than the Collins era and this is the first Genesis album that has appeal to both Gabriel and Collins fans and prog rock in general. This is certainly worth checking out and I know lots of people criticise these Davis remixes but I have no problem with them at all. There’s a lot of details brought forward that was normally hidden on previous releases.

Anyone get high frequency distortion at the start of side B on this release?

i have the first four important genesis albums on CD…..the LP’s sound much nicer and warmer. pressing and reproduction is very good. highly recommended.

Given that the copy in my possession is extremely damaged due to booles in the vinyl and therefore my listening impression is limited to some songs on side 1 (Time Table, Get 'Em Out By Friday, Can-Utility And The Coastliners). It is well known that early Genesis albums, including Foxstrot, sound stringy and muffled, so I wanted to try this US edition which offers a different mastering than the European ones. In fact, this press offers a much more emphasized sound on the high mids and with a better detail of the sound in general that manages to remove that stringy feeling. There is a lack in the low frequencies, which however does not occur on the bass sound which is more distinct. Unfortunately, however, in my opinion, this ultimately gives an overall sound that is a bit boxy and with high sibilants. Above all, the voice is affected, which is further back in the soundstage and less intelligible.
It's always a personal opinion, but I must say that finding a vinyl in excellent condition, the purchase decision has its own reason.

There is 4 entry for this canadian pressing, none of them have a year. Must be 1977 ? Anyway doesn't matter much, it's really a bad pressings. No highs, no punch, no bass, no nothing !
