The pressing quality and the sound of the 2017 releases are good, but the reproduction of the cover artwork are bad and in the case of "irrlicht" it´s just the cover of the 2nd release from the 70´s and not the artwork from the 1st press. The pictures are blurred and pixelated. The good thing are the download card. But i think, it´s a lost chance to re-release a lot of magnificent albums from the legenday Klaus Schulze.

I discovered Klaus Schulze while I was listening to electronica. His collaborations with Pete Namlook has provided one of the biggest discographies I have ever seen, with over 130 albums on his account alone. But in the beginning Klaus was all about exploring the possibilities of his synthesizer, after leaving Manuel Göttsching and Ash Ra Tempel behind. "Quadrophonische Symphonie für Orchester und E-Maschinen", the undertitle of this release, shows what he sought to create with his toys. It's really a haunting experience, and one of the toughest albums I've listened through. But that is what makes it all that special. When it's all over, you feel a sense of relief, like you have endured something rather than listened to it.

More drone and dark ambient than Berlin school sequencers. If I'd been told it was released in the last five years I wouldn't have been surprised.

So, with the aid of a small orchestra (who thought Klaus was mad), several tape machines, electronic gadgetry, an organ, guitar, percussion and various odds and ends, Klaus went on to produce what is arguably the first real "cosmic" electronic album (Tangerine Dream's ZEIT was recorded a month later!) despite the absence of any real synths. What was created is a music that is flowing, spacious, melodic yet also abstract, featuring sequential or systemic type patterns (a touch of Terry Riley maybe) and an overdose of effects taking the listener into the nether regions of infinity. In three parts, yet almost sounding as one piece, IRRLICHT offered a choice of directions for Klaus to pursue: the sequential style of Ebene, the dramatic chance electronics of Gewitter, and the abstract reverse tape cosmic cacophony of Exil Sils Maria. Another track: Land appeared on the KOSMISCHE MUSIK sampler suggesting even more Terry Riley influence. Although recorded three months later, Land was very much in character with IRRLICHT, it further went on to consolidate Klaus' talents as a keyboard musician and engineer, and despite being voted number 5 instrumentalist of the year in German Sounds magazine he still remained relatively unknown in his homeland.

This album has seen me through some harsh times and some high times too.
For my money this & Blackdance remain my favourites.
I've played both these albums until they wore out, then the tdk tapes wore out, then the CDs got remastered & expanded & I bought them both once again.
I reach for Irrlicht whenever my mind is gone.
The room you occupy is simply not enough to contain you or this music. I frequently listen to this & bust through the living room wall where i'm thrown at light speed deep into the outreaches of the multiverse.
Spacey Ambience - a hushed lonely flight over worlds watching the seasons change and days become nights.
Free your mind & you'll astral travel.

Klaus Schulze's solo debut is a masterful album featuring some of the most majestic instances of space music ever recorded, all the more remarkable for being recorded without synthesizers. "Satz Gewitter", the first of two tracks and the highlight here, slowly progresses from oscillator static to a series of glowing organ lines, all informed by Schulze's excellent feel for phase effects.
As a solo artist, Klaus Schulze emerged among the founding fathers of contemporary electronic music. His epic, meditative soundscapes are a key influence on the subsequent rise of the new age aesthetic. Born in Berlin on August 4, 1947, Klaus Schulze began his performing career during the 1960s, playing guitar, bass and drums in a variety of local bands. By 1969, he was drummer in "Tangerine Dream".

This is one of the most startling and evocative albums I have EVER listened to, I was totally unprepared for this soundscape, and from a recording that is over 30 years old.
Do yourself a favour, put this at the top of your want list, this is GENIUS at work, not an easy piece to listen to, but ultimately very rewarding, as good as anything released in the modern era!!
I cannot recommend this masterwork more strongly, if you want to find out where our electronic origins began, this is ONE of THE starting points!
Simply astonishing, and I thought I had heard it all!!
