Genesis – Invisible Touch

Anyone have an observation about the sound quality of this pressing? Is it worth the upgrade? Or is an OG still tops for sound quality?

Great sounding pressing. Punchy, yet well well balanced. My copy is flat and plays noise free. And despite being the remix, I don’t hear anything distinguishingly different from the original version I’m so used to.

This press sounds insanely good. Can't imagine it sounding better, regardless of format. Also, great textured sleeve.

I wish I could give this a higher rating, but my original copy sounds miles better - the changes they made left this version compressed and unexciting.

Of the 91 records I have, I would place this pressing under the Top 15, maybe even Top 10, when it comes to sound quality. To me, “the vinyl sound” means I can really *feel* the instruments – e.g. the plucking of string instruments – while with CD and MP3 it is almost always only the bass. This album delivers on that front. The drums are always there but never overwhelming, there is no sibilance in the synthesizers, I can make out every single word of the vocals. I don't know what else you could wish for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I agree on how great this release sounds. I also agree with guitarromantics take. They were doing there best to mimic the sound of times. But, it didn't stand a chance against Brotherhood, Black Celebration, or Standing On The Beach.

i have one of them, how much would people be willing to pay for them? i genuinely dont know if it would go for more than an actual pressing

Just go with the original. No vinyl pressing, no half speed master will improve the flawed 2008 remix here. The remix, strips out the nuance, reverb, atmosphere, the synthesizers sound dry and the results make the recording sound...how do I put this, like a toy. There is just something really wrong with the majority of this mix. Land of Confusion, sounds ok, but everything else has a quality that feels as if this was done as an assignment, it is technical, it might check some boxes, but lacks heart and misses the big picture, at times it just sounds thrown together. If you listen to this without knowing the original you are really doing yourself a disservice and you may wonder how this ever sold millions of copies. Just get the original or even the original CD: The original CD was basically recorded as a demo disc for the Compact Disc in it's day.

Compared with my UK OG.

The original has a wider soundstage, but the remaster has more depth.

The original has slightly more detail, but the remaster has more solid, three dimensional images.

The original has more dynamics, but the remaster better integrates the low end and mid-bass into the midrange. Guitar tone and vocals are slightly better on the remaster on most tracks.

The UK original remains inexpensive for a NM copy and the remaster also brings it's own subtle variations (and some slight variation in mixes).
