Dissection – Storm Of The Light's Bane

I own one of the Munhwa bootlegs and brought it with me when I traveled to the east coast to visit a friend so I could compare it to the 2014 The End Records version which he owns. I was hoping it would be a fair fight as I thought my bootleg sounded pretty good and I've been happy with it since I bought it but once we did a proper A/B comparison it illustrated a stark quality difference.

The 2014 End Records pressing is either derived from a better source or something relating to a specific mastering process altogether because the differences are quite obvious and not remotely subtle. The 2014 End Records pressing has notably better soundstage, wider stereo image, much fuller and clearer sounding (separation of instruments is more defined on 2014 End Records pressing), way punchier dynamics & better clarity which leads me to speculate my Munhwa was pressed from an inferior source.

Please note, I'm not saying the Munhwa copy sounds bad. Like I said, I've had it since late 2022 and have enjoyed it (packaging is great too!) but hearing the 2014 End Records version has spoiled the Munhwa for me. It's *SO* good sounding, I just hate that it costs so much money now

I have no idea why it is taking so long to get an official repress done but I hope it happens soon. I'm considering just pulling the trigger and spending a few hundred dollars to get one of these as this is one of the best albums ever and I can't enjoy my Munhwa copy anymore after our comparison.

Also: we used 2 different players and 2 different stylus, and also a rumble filter used on one of the tests to check certain frequencies.

The End Records 2014 pressing: 10/10

I own numerous variants of this album pressed by Munhwa, and they may be considered “Unofficial” releases, but every copy I have sound great and the gatefold jackets are exceptionally well made. Highly recommended to any fan of this masterpiece of an album.

Finally got my copy today and yes,it's sound great for a bootleg release with normal price.The Sound is sharp and clear,and the cover looks very nice.

Sounds and looks good! Definitely would rather have this then spend hundreds of dollars for a different repress. If you can get one for the price they actually go for then grab it!

Supposedly limited to 100 copies according to an ebay listing for it..

From what I know, the country for all these Dissection creato boots is actually Sweden. Korea is said to be a red herring and since that location can't be confirmed it's best to leave the country blank.

There are a lot of albums nowadays that sound the same on vinyl as they did compressed on mp4. This is not one of them

Really nice pressing! They got everything right on this one. Original artwork in gatefold sleeve and 1LP pressing. These guys should do "Somberlain" also. I have no problems buying bootlegs if there aren`t perfect official versions available.
