Genesis – Selling England By The Pound

Very disappointed with this AP pressing. There is clarity and separation but the dynamics are flat and lifeless with weak bass. And before I get criticised for my ears or equipment, I loved the AP issues of the 2 Phil Collins albums and Kick which were all so much more detailed and dynamic than the OP’s.

I have an amazing copy. It sounds super clean, specially on quiet parts like firth of fifth. Saddly, i will never know the year of my pressing (it can be any year between 1975 and 1979)

Genesis' *Selling England By The Pound* on 180g vinyl is a solid reissue, but it isn’t without its flaws. While the heavier vinyl weight provides a stable and generally quiet listening experience, some audiophiles might find the remastering to be slightly lacking in warmth compared to original pressings. There’s a certain crispness to the sound that, while clear, can occasionally feel a bit sterile, particularly in the higher frequencies.

Phil Collins' drumming and Peter Gabriel’s distinctive vocals remain strong points, coming through with clarity and precision. However, the pressing doesn’t always capture the full dynamic range that these performances deserve, occasionally feeling compressed in the more complex sections.

The packaging is beautifully done, with the original artwork meticulously reproduced.

I have variant 3 which is from a non numbered release.
Regarding the three matrix variants can anyone say which were 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the order of pressings ? Which ones are the corrected ones ?

TazTheGreat by supersonicwaves - This sounds pretty serious... I don't think this was by any means intentional... I'd hope they're planning on doing a recall. I'll stick with the 1994 remastered edition. I don't appreciate them rerecording bits of Gabriel's vocals for the 2007 remixing thing. That whole thing irks me, because the whole concept was to have them remixed for surround sound listening. But they get reissued in stereo (on vinyl, too... like seriously??) And the surround sound isn't even an option anymore. They can't of course just admit that the fruit from all that work they put into it has been long ago eaten. Rhino may decide reissuing them in surround sound is worth it, and if so, fantastic, but... this is just crazy....ya, I'm way off topic by now, what of it. ..

i really am not sure where this pressing comes from. i first suspected either germany or italy, but seeing as both countries produced gatefold versions, and slight label differences, i suspect somewhere in the benelux region. either way, this is an incredible master of this iconic record, and as mine is in near mint condition, one of my favorite records to spin. a true art piece.

Yes I bought a copy this lp around 1998 when lps were scarce it was $10 as lps were not fashionable it was brand new I had the original nz and Oz pressings which I was quite happy with I bought it mainly as it was cheap and the cover is a nice laminated gatefold and of course it is an lp whenever I play it makes me feel good

My oh my, where do I even begin? This is probably the best-sounding version of this album I've ever heard. The depth and clarity of this issue is seriously stunning. I've heard things on this issue that I haven't heard on previous editions. Peter sounds like he's in the room, and the low-end is super warm and rich. It's like hearing this album for the first time all over again. I can't recommend this copy enough.

Excellent pressing and sounds fantastic. All analog. Original mix. Rich full sound with great bass, mids and highs but not too bright.

Still $60 on the AP website. Don’t pay these flipper prices.
