Reviews
This 24-bit release (Bandcamp) sounds amazing. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. There's no ear daggers or boomy bass to contend with. The soundstage is very wide and deep, making speakers nearly disappear. The vocals are located well in front of the music. I hope future Ahab releases use 24-bits.
Excellent release, however my copy, and I can only assume others, was recorded oddly.
There immediately seemed to be a ton of tape used (visually), but being Ahab and typically having lengthy tracks, I could see this happening, but…there are only 3 tracks on side A, leaving a TON of dead space and tape until the end of the side. Side B obviously has the remaining 4 tracks, but again, lots of dead space when the last track concludes. Example: side A runs ~22:52, side B runs ~43:24 (track length only, not including space between tracks). This doesn’t seem right.
Hoping Napalm will recognize this and correct. Basically makes the listening experience with this particular format unenjoyable.
My vinyl copy of the main album is only clear, no orange marble. As far as I know, there is only one version of this boxset.
