Dälek – From Filthy Tongue Of Gods And Griots

Even my used copy with surface marks sounds quiet and FANTASTIC. One of my favorite records in my collection, and one of the best sounding.

I reckon the strange album cover was done intentionally to interest the casual hip hop and rap listener, similar to what Throbbing Gristle did with "20 Jazz Funk Greats". With its almost comical and offputting appearance it looks like another strange low budget rap album with some possible low budget jams on it, but once listened to a different beast exists altogether with multiple influences to shoegaze/industrial/noise/dark ambient included with five percenter inspired raps and poetry. a must-buy for anyone who likes their Hip-Hop a little more "offbeat"

I will start by this some of the most uneasy listening of hip hop i've ever heard, but amazing to say the least! a true testament of blending Industrial and live instrument influence with hip hop. "Spiritual Healing" is a lot more "industrial rap" than most i've heard, as the backing production seems to taken straight out of a early 80s industrial recording, backed by MC Dälek's often gutteral assault. the following tracks follow in a same manner in both been dark and incredibly well produced, but i'd say my fave two tracks off this album are the beautiful "Forever Close My Eyes" which blends shoegaze guitars with saddening spoken word poetry, and the closing Dvorak sampling "Classical Homicide". Hearing this now makes me wish these guys would've gotten more appreciation, as this was a great album. 5/5
