- For what it’s worth, this doesn’t sound that muddy to me! There are better and worse tracks in terms of clarity, but sounds way better than I thought from reading these two previous reviews. My only complaint is that Solsbury Hill might be the softest track on the record!

This one is blue while the inlay is again the correct colour.referencing Peter Gabriel (CD, Album, Reissue) PGCD 1
I like the colour variation on this one. The inlay card is blue though like the original.
I wonder why they did this one burgundy? Misprint?referencing Peter Gabriel (LP, Album) SD 36-147
Bought my copy used and not in great shape, so difficult to rate this pressing. Great album from Peter Gabriel, his first post-Genesis if I remember well... but my copy has a lot of surface noise and clicks. 3/5- A solid pressing. While I have not compared this to others, the vinyl is quiet and the music is dynamic. The ‘Muddiness’ in the sound in some songs is , I think, baked in to the mix, as the CD remaster from 2002 did not improve this aspect.
- Edited 7 months agoI decided to buy this today as I sold a couple of bits at a record fair. It's one of my favourite albums of all time! I only have an early 80s repress and a remasted CD. This 45rpm is pretty decent. I can hear extra details in the mix as I always found the album not one of the best recordings to be honest. I'm happy with it. Anybody else notice "Down The Dolce Vita" never sounded this good. The orchestra comes alive! “Excuse Me” and “Humdrum” sound incredible too.

Look at the front cover and discover something pretty amazing. And I don't usually use amazing to describe much. If you focus you can see the artistic detail.- Oh dear, I am the party pooper. First I am a fan going back to the first time I saw PG in concert in Lyon in1979. I have most of his material on vinyl and some on CD and some Hires downloads. This 2016 vinyl is good quality, really quiet background as you'd hope with the half-speed mastering. It is flat and decent weight. That's where it ends. The sound is poor. When it starts the levels are way to high. PG's voice when it kicks in sounds like he has a severe sore scratchy throat. The more mellow tracks sound better but still lack bottom end weight or presence. The courtesy 24 bit 96 kHz flac fares a bit better (USB audio) - PG's voice isn't quite so bad. It still sounds too clinical and lacks weight and ambience/presence. I couldn't believe it so I put on a my original charisma version - and so much better. In fact I carried on playing it through. I wasted £22. Note my system is pretty high end and neutral/accurate - someone with a warm turntable combo might like it more.
- A great debut from the ex Genesis frontman.
He offers up a lot of styles here making it a very enjoyable listen. Some of it still sounds like Genesis, but some of it points towards the future.
