- Great sound quality. Mine doesn't have the promo strip. I have a stereo copy and it doesn't match the mono mix.
- I love all my KPG reissues, but for this one, I own the RML version - https://www.discogs.com/release/1515519-The-Byrds-The-Notorious-Byrd-Brothers - has anyone compared the two? The RML version definitely sounds amazing, but I would LOVE to hear the KPG version... thanks!!!
- Edited 3 months agoAbsolutely cannot find my copy here, heavier pasteback cardboard sleeve, white heart in lower right corner of rear sleeve, black back with the grainy black and white photo, XSM119704-1AA XSM119704-1J stamped matrixes looks like a '70s pressing on thinner vinyl... Red Label Orange Columbia around label. It's really clean still in shrink and it sounds great...
- Does anyone have any insight into the re-mastering process for this release given that it was done by Rob LoVerde at MoFi - did they use a straight analog process, or was there a digital step as per the recent revelations? This version does sound incredible especially with a mono cart/styl (Grado, in my case)...
- I have an early stereo-pressing of this record and it does not compare. There is way more bottom end on this mono re-release and a much, more, fuller sound than the original stereo. All in all, a superior recording!

Psychedelic country at its finest. "Goin' Back" and "Wasn't Born To Follow", both by Goffin & King, are standouts, as are band originals "Old John Robertson" and "Get To You". This 1970 pressing sounds really good, with great range from top to bottom, a vivid and vital stereo mix, and a broad, full soundstage that really spotlights the harmony vocals. My copy plays nice and clean, with barely any surface noise, save for a pair of pops in the groove between "Draft Morning" and "Wasn't Born To Follow".- Sound quality is no great shakes. Shot out against plain-jane early 70s US copy (Terre Haute), and the 70s copy sounds way better. SV cut sounds kinda sickly. YMMV, natch.
- This is one of those albums where both stereo and mono mixes are SO good that they are both kinda essential. The stereo mix is excellent; the balance is great, the panning isn’t awkward, and the phasing makes for a more psychedelic listen. The mono is very focused and tight, with more of an earthy and earthly feel. The phasing is gone for the most part. Everything is audible and superbly balanced. And of course since these are Columbia pressings, the vinyl is flawless.
- This is a very, very nice pressing. Standard digital master as far as I can tell, but the surface is flat, noiseless and the depth of field and dynamics are a marked improvement from the 90s CD issue I basically had in constant rotation for a decade or so! A no-brainer for the price, I'd say.
- Edited 2 years agoA nice Byrds release, combining country, folk, rock, psychedelic, and some Stax records-esque Memphis horns. They've got some creative moments, nice vocal harmonies, some unique textures, etc.
A decent pressing, no complaints here.
