Fantastic, yet only partially realized, idea (I'm speaking generally about the Master Drummers concept, not specifically about this volume). Had these three drummers; Purdie, Lea, and Clark been included among a couple dozen others, it might've made more sense. Same goes for Purdie getting two volumes when only four were produced in total. They're solid drummers for certain but "Master"? Like I said though, had their names been included alongside, for example; Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Billy Cobham, Harvey Mason, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Kim Plainfield, Tim Alexander, Airto Moreira, plus a dozen or more solid names, then they might've felt like they belonged. But to have only those three drummers and for Purdie to take up two out of four volumes makes it seem as though the folks responsible for this series over at Ubiquity: a) didn't really put much effort into it, b) aren't themselves Drummers, in addition to, c) didn't bother to research the subject in the slightest. All things considered, it's not surprising this series stalled out before it ever really got anywhere.
