Notes
Album Sales: 45,000+
First Release Date: March 1994
A solo debut album by John Frusciante. This album was recorded between two time periods; the first half, Niandra Lades, was recorded before Frusciante left the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1992; during the recording of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. The second half, Usually Just a T-Shirt, was recorded while the band was on tour in the months leading up to Frusciante's departure.
Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt sold poorly upon its release in 1994, and was taken off the market, only to be re-released in 1999. The reason for this was because it estimated to have sold only 45,000 copies when Frusciante ordered it out of print in 1998—when Frusciante rehabilitated and rejoined the Chili Peppers. His 1997 follow-up Smile From the Streets You Hold was also withdrawn from the market at the same time.

Reviews
- this pressing sounds great considering the source. i wasn’t convinced vinyl would sound better than the tape, but it does. great package.
- The quality of the recordings themselves is very low being essentially bedroom 4-track demos; however this pressing sounds fantastic given the circumstances. Such a cool album that works very well on vinyl given the double-album nature of the music not represented by the original CD release.
As others have noted the packaging is nice here as well. Feels like a labor of love, and this album absolutely deserves it!
A certified classic that has aged gracefully. It sounds just as fresh in 2024 as it did when I first heard it in 2008. - Repress of this deluxe edition on translucent blue vinyl with 1,000 copies coming exclusively available through SV's website. Dream come true!
- Sound is great, truly weird record but that’s why I love it so much, sadly it got a little expensive, but grab it for an reasonable price if can, it’s worth it :)
- This is John Frusciante balancing on that famous fine line between genius and insanity. A fascinating and sometimes downright frightening listen, the sound of a man falling apart.
- Among one of the most unique tapes, it's a complete timbral masterpiece that only deserves several relistens.
