Notes
Beggars Banquet is the seventh British and ninth American studio album by the English rock band The Rolling Stones, recorded 17 March–25 July 1968 and released on 6 December 1968 by Decca in the United Kingdom and London Records in the United States.
In UK, the first laminated gatefold cover was printed by Garrod and Lofthouse. The time in between the decision on how the cover should look like and the actual manufacturing was probably very short. They had no time to wait for the Patent to be registered so they had to put the "Patents Pending" text next to the name. Beggars Banquet was released at the end of 1968, when the mono production in UK was at the end. This is why it is more common to find this text on stereo cover. For the above reason, the text "Patents Pending" identify the very earliest UK mono cover.
The earliest matrix known for the mono version end with -4A (side 1) and -2A (side 2).

- The original mono mix for this album is the way to go. Very punchy in the lower bass, with great separation in the instruments. The conga’s in the first track lay the foundation, then the instruments build on top of it and it is a delight to hear on this pressing. The whole album sounds fantastic. Cannot recommend this original UK mono pressing of this album enough.
- Absolutely stunning copy, great separation, Jagger and ‘Richard’ miked separately throughout, tight instrumentation, nice soundstage, was this recorded live I don’t know. Don’t know why there are no comments here, maybe there is another listing. Never heard those voices at the beginning of Stray Cat Blues before. Feels like I’m hearing it for the first time, this original press! Other than bass sounding somewhat anemic it feels period correct for Rolling Stones and Glyn Johns.

It must be, in my opinion, the most unattractive cover in the entire Rolling Stones discography. Just text in an ugly script font on a plain, soft yellow background. That said, the album itself is fantastic and as far as I’m concerned, this repress sounds great! referencing Beggars Banquet (LP, Album, Reissue, Remastered, Stereo, Pallas Pressing, Gatefold) 882 330-1
LOVE this record at proper speed like this. If they could marry this w/ AAA sound, it would be a perfect beast. That said, there's nothing wrong here - flat record, no surface noise, and very revealing. My UK OG just has a bit more cajones and warmth.- I have a 1969 pressing of this title and find that there is not much difference between the playback volume of the 1969 pressing and this 2013 pressing. What I find totally fascinating from my limited read on the subject and from what I now hear in listening and comparing the two is that the 2013 pressing appears to be from the 2002 or later speed corrected DSD master. It appears that my 1969 pressing is from what many seem to agree is a faulty slower master. I'll have to give a couple of more listens but I presently like the speed corrected mastering that is found on this 2013 album. The song Jig-Saw puzzle has sort of dirge and plodding sound on the 1969 but seems to be a little higher pitched and a little bouncier or jauntier on this 2013 pressing. The jacket says this 2013 was mastered for the lp by Bob Ludwig. I think that overall the Bob Ludwig master is a good master. As someone who normally will argue against changes from the original pressing, I find myself on the other side of the fence here. My 2013 pressing plays quiet with good fidelity. I recommend this 2013 release.
- No complaints whatsoever. Sonically rich, separation clear and the sound overall punchy. A good choice for a listening copy.
- A desert island disc for sure. Great performances of great songs. At a yard sale some years ago I found a small mother lode of highly desirable titles with VG+ to NM sleeves. (Axis, Surrealistic Pillow, Her Majesty's Satanic, Sgt. Pepper's, Beggars, etc.) Unfortunately all the sleeves were empty! No clue what happened to the discs. I bought the jackets anyway, and just found on eBay this release with no jacket. As expected for a disc without a jacket, it's a little beat up but it plays through on one of my turntables and sounds great despite the pops and clicks. I have another copy on order from Discogs (listed as VG+ with a kinda nasty cover). We'll see how that one is.
- The mono version of Sympathy For The Devil that is on Disc 2 sounds much better than the mono version included in the Rolling Stones in Mono release from 2016. The version on this release has punchier bass, and clearer instruments and vocals. It's also louder.
They should have provided the whole album in mono on that second disc as they did for the other 50th anniversary SACDs. But at least we get the best track. The stereo version is wonky with some instruments and vocals in one ear, and some in the other. (Hearing the "hoo hoo" vocals in the right ear only for example.)
