- Another devilishly funky (if lazy) Remix by Armand Van Helden. Taking his now established Drum & Bass format - long intro, huge drop, and then a massive bassline to drive the track. The bass is lifted from Roni Size - Brown Paper Bag (pitched up), and the percussion samples are taken from Kenny Dope on the Masters At Work Mix of BNH - Sometimes.
Van Helden discussed this mix in a Rolling Stones article:
"Oh! You know who did contact me? I had completely forgotten about this: Mick Jagger! His camp – the Rolling Stones camp, I guess – reached out to my camp and said, "Hey can we have Armand remix?" And I said absolutely, then I come to find out that no, Mick Jagger wants to speak to you personally. And then I get the phone call and we talk and Mick just kind of says, "Hey, what's your idea?" I told him that I wanted to make it as funky as possible but also as dancefloor-ready as possible. When the mix came out it did medium, nothing great – I wish it did better, considering that Mick was very involved with it." - Edited 20 years agoThe U.S. version of this 12" is promo-only and contains a
SERIOUS typographical error on both the label and art-jacket:
The excellent A-side Armand Van Helden mix is actually
the same full-length mix that's on the U.K. 12":
it's approximately 10:29, NOT 4:08.
In my opinion, one of the reasons this great House remix
never caught on in the US is that all the copies that were
serviced to radio stations, journalists and record pools
contain the timing error, and practically none of the DJs
bothered to even listen to it when they saw how short it
supposedly is! Don't let the timing fool you, it's an
excellent mix, and still sounds fresh today (2005).
