Dynamics from way over there to just over here.
Full bottom.
A great reissue.
Slight edge warp on both discs, but play through no problem.
Very little surface noise on mine.
The packaging for a gatefold is pretty minimal, but that kind of fits in with the vibe of the thing.
Hypnotic.
Narcotic.
You’ll get lost in about 200 bars. referencing Lazer Guided Melodies (2×12", 45 RPM, Album, Reissue, Special Edition, 180 Gram) FP1751-1
Mastering is excellent.
Pressing quality is not great but not horrible. Mine mainly have pops and clicks in various songs, especially during quiet parts (this is after a wet cleaning). Inner sleeves should have been better, as others mentioned. I also have a minor edge warp on side C.
All in all, though, I recommend this one. But buy it from a retailer where returns are relatively easy in case you get one that’s not up to par.referencing Lazer Guided Melodies (2×12", 45 RPM, Album, Reissue, Special Edition, 180 Gram) FP1751-1
Pressing of my black vinyl couldn't be better. Sounds cosmic, loud. Spins silently.- Edited 12 months agoGorgeous vinyl! Can't wait to get the others in the set...
I heard crackling?!? on the intro and freaked - cleaned it again - more crackling - cleaned it again (velvet brush) - DEAD QUIET! Lesson I learned: just because you hear noise, doesn't mean it's the vinyl! Both 45s played dead fucking quiet.............BEAUTIFUL referencing Lazer Guided Melodies (2×12", 45 RPM, Album, 7", 45 RPM, All Media, Limited Edition) DEDLP 004S
For the longest time I've been one of those people puzzled by all the complaints over the Plain Recordings from 2010-11. My copy always sounded exactly like it should based on 20+ years of listening to the CD. Then I bought the Fat Possum reissue believing the hype that it would be sonically superior, but on initial listens I couldn't hear any difference. Today I finally sat down and A/B'ed 'em with decent volume. I only A/B'ed side 4. The difference was very clear, mostly on Angel Sigh when the loud parts kick in. On the Plain, yep, it was tinny and compressed sounding, and the Fat Possum had more volume, oomph and phatness. However, based on those most recent comments I wish I'd used this money to get myself an og, which I may still do. This album is a classic in my personal repertoire/history/collection.- One and only edition of this set to have , the resst pales in nothingness compared to it .
As simple as that !!! - Beautiful reissue! Sounds great! I haven’t heard an original but not sure that I really need to. This is way better than my old CD version and so enjoyable.
- Edited 2 years agoI just got my hands on an original 1992 pressing, which has a stellar reputation for sounding amazing, and did an A/B comparison with this 2021 reissue. And I must say... they sound identical. It is unbelievable, like GZ had the original lacquers to repress from. Did they? Anyhow, the engineers did a bangup job with this. My only complaint: WHY did they change the cover art?? It looks like total sh_t. The white background only emphasizes all the banding in the gradients. The original cover is so iconic. I could understand it if it was a remix, or demo versions, but the music is an exact replica of the the O.G., so it should have the same cover art. It would have been far more impressive to do an exact replica of the O.G., except make it a gatefold.
