- Edited 12 years agoThe 2nd release from Phil & Ron delivered a different harder flavour than their first ep 'We Can Rock It'. Once again this EP reflects the Rave Scenes movement towards the Darker Hardcore sound of 92'. 'Punishment' does exactly what it was supposed to do, rip up the dance floors. We always knew this would be a minor hit for the label when produced, but it was everything we set out to create, a Rave Dancers dream with its firin Breaks and riff laden drops. I first heard this out when Micky Finn got the first plate and debuted the track at World Dance. The 'You Didn't Learn Mix' was to take the track to another harder and darker level with a more Techy edge to the production.
At the time this EP was produced I went and saw 'Loftgroover' play at a new night in London called 'Knowledge' with resident DJs Colin Faver & Colin Dale who were big Basement fans. The night was built around the Techno sound and had a more purist feel to it. The music was allowed to breathe and tracks would be played from start to finish. It was a truly magical night and I tried to capture the feelings it evoked. So the track was a sort of homage to two great DJs so we were really pleased with the track when finished and Ron was inspired to produce the 'Old School' mix.
