referencing Atomic Rooster (LP, Album, Reissue) AK 167
Very strange that it doesn't say anywhere that this Italian 2001 release from Akarma, is the guitar mix! It really surprised me when I compared it to the version on Spotify. All three songs, "Friday 13th", "Before Tomorrow" and "S.L.Y" have the heavy John DuCann guitar!!referencing Atomic Rooster (LP, Album, Limited Edition, Numbered, Reissue, Transluscent Green) MOVLP1756
Was wondering if this is the earlier piano/flute mix or the later guitar mix. Does anyone know? Thanks!- The two last bonus tracks with John DuCann (lead guitar, bass guitar and lead vocals) replacing Nick Grahan (bass guitar, lead guitar, lead vocals and flute). Ok?

Barcode: 8 719262 029057 - In 1970 Atomic Rooster released their debut album entitled “Atomic Roooster” on the B&C record label number CAS 1010. In total FOUR different UK vinyl pressings on the B&C label have appeared.
The very first pressing had all the eight songs but in the wrong order. Tracks 3 and 4 of each side were switched. So the song order on the record was Side 1: tracks 1,2,7 and 8, Side 2: tracks 5,6,3 and 4. The matrix numbers were CAS+1010+A and CAS+1010+B.
In a first attempt to fix this, the technicians at the record company addressed only one side! So if you think about it, two songs now appeared twice on the album and two other songs had disappeared completely. The matrix numbers of this erroneous version are CAS+1010+A and CAS+1010+B2. So the songs Winter and Decline & Fall both appear twice on the record and Broken Wings and Before Tomorrow are absent. This record must be avoided!
At the third try they got it right. This pressing has the matrix numbers CAS+1010+A2 and CAS+1010+B2 and has all the eight songs in the correct order. The paper on the label has a rough texture and a large B&C logo. This version of the album is the original mix, of the keyboard driven version of the band, with bass player Nick Graham also stretching out on flute. This album is called the flute mix. The Dutch pressing on Fontana has this mix too.
Then later bandleader Vincent Crane decided that a keyboard driven band isn’t what he (or the market) wanted after all and remixed three of the albums songs to include John Cann’s guitar. His aim may have been to redo all the songs but he likely ran out of funds. A new copy of the album was pressed but in the same sleeve, failing to mention John Cann anywhere. This fourth pressing can be identified from the smooth paper label and a smaller B&C logo. It has CAS 1010 A-1U and CAS 1010 B-1U matrix numbers. It was cut by Ray Staff. Some claim this was an export copy for the USA. It is called the guitar mix. referencing Atomic Rooster (LP, Album, Stereo) 6369 001
Dutch Fontana 1st pressing from 1970 contains original 'keyboards-only' mix without John Cann guitar overdubs! The sound is awesome - on some tracks even slightly better than UK B&C 1st press!- I have a 1st pressing of the lp. It's an obvious factory mispressing as the last 2 songs on both sides are Winter and Decline & Fall. The only reference to it I've found is in a discography of B&C Records from 2016. Does anyone have any further info on it?
- Edited 4 years agoLet's see if I got this right. There are two mixes, the "guitar mix" and the original "organ only mix". The guitar mix added guitar to Friday the 13th, Before Tomorrow and S.L.Y. The rest of the songs are without added guitar. However, the guitar version Friday the 13th are played faster and in a different key with different vocals (is it sped up?), while Before Tomorrow and S.L.Y. just straight up added the guitar to the existing track.
Edit: The bonus track Play the Game also features guitar, if anyone was wondering. - How does the Russian Federation have a Mint copy of the 1970 release. In fact, a mint copy of every record ever produced? Amazing!
