According to a youtube upload, "Go West" is a unique edit of the 1992 mix on here. Is this true?referencing Go West (CD, Maxi-Single) E2-58084
Surprised that no one has mentioned there is a long (nearly 2m) riff on MFSB's Love Is The Message towards the end of the Fire Island Mix. It's quite a tasty surprise.referencing Go West (CD, Single, Stereo) 7243 8 80910 2 2

"Go West", despite being the most successful single released from "Very", is the only one that didn't receive the 2-CD singles release treatment in the UK. Only one 3-track CD Single (CDR 6356). Why is that ? What happened ?
The Farley and Heller remixes, as well as the Saunderson remixes never appeared on any UK CD with one of the logical catalog numbers such as CDRS 6356 or CDRX 6356 that could have been. They're non vocal remixes. The only additional vocal remix of Go West, the Picchiotti and Bristol "Sunny Beach Vocal" was never released commercially. Maybe the Boys didn't like it. Maybe a decent vocal remix was expected and as none was delivered, it was decided that a second CD single was out of the question. Who knows ?
I'd really like to get the Boys opinion about this and the story behind the "Go West" single release. referencing Go West (7", Single) R 6356
Upon first listen, the Mings Gone West mix seems like it's just the album version with a 5 minute instrumental section tacked onto the end...but listen critically and you'll notice several subtle differences between the album version and the "first movement".
Too many to list here, there's but lots of little variances in drum programming and backing vocals. Even the synths sound a little different in some parts, and for the intro it sounds like they used two completely different stock "beach / surf" sound effects for each version.referencing Go West (7", Single) R 6356
Go west is most similar from Russia's hymn. I think that is a cover- I have been kicking myself for passing on this when I saw it for $20 in SF not long after it came out (@ Streetlight Records in The Castro). Assumed it was just the regular mixes already available. I checked online when I got home & saw the mixes were different & went back the next day to grab it, but it was already gone.

What's this, tech-house in 1993? Well, the PSBoys might say thanks for the tag, but i'm sure those of use who bought this and were playing this in '93/'94 had no idea that it needed a name back then. This is a tidy collection of remixes, and the names involved make it an ideal collectible. I remember spinning it at my residency as late as '98 and still seeing the smiles. Tech-house, again, doesn't seem to fit: this vinyl pressing is just another evolution of house that didn't need to stand out, a la the warehouse feeling. Go West had a great video clip, but the Boys were always better heard than seen on the box. This will remind many of parties gone by. Kevin Saunderson will remain a fave for most by default, and respect is due.- Edited 19 years agoOther than being as rare as a decent DnB tune these days, I dont know why this is so desirable. Ive had two of these in my collection (sold one, kept the other) and have listened to them once and even then not completely through. Very dodgy mixes and they contain nothing of that special PSB sound which makes the original so brillliant.

It was only a matter of time before the Pet Shop Boys took on The Village People, and the result is... really damn disco-licious. An uplifting throw-your-hands-in-the-air track about gay freedom and migration. Given that Brothers in Rhythm produced the album track, it's not surprising that their mix is simply an extension of the original with the minor key coda stretched to its limits, but the other mixes are similarly unscintillating. Farley & Heller, as good as they are, phone in their two mixes, while Kevin Saunderson's "Tribe" and "Trance" mixes are, sadly, neither tribal nor trance. But don't let the lackluster mixes make you overlook "Shameless," a irony-laden b-side that's simply divine. All pop music should be this good.
