The Daevid Allen - Banana Moon in GREEN SINGLE cover is no that a PROMO issue!!!!! On the spin off is it stamped "a arlacem" som betyr PROMO, but as with very many Latin word you must share it in two. I live in Spain and have two French neighbours as solved this mystery in two minutes. So forget REISSUE and take care about your PROMO copy! All BYG records SHALL have a weight at 180 gram, if less it's a later pressing. Originales on BYG have very good sound.referencing Banana Moon (LP, Album, Gatefold) 529 345
Banana Moon cannot be praised enough for its originality and musicianship. Wyatt's drumming is so good it just leaves me stupefied. I have many, many pressings of this album, and the best one to my ears is the second French press, with the green cover.
PS
Stumbled on an interesting article several years ago, that Banana Moon is number 11 on David Bowie's favorite 25 albums list.

Wonderful (in one's mid-fifties) to discover this recording with Robert Wyatt on drums and—in many instances—vocals.
Previously knew of Daevid only via the New York Gong recording: primarily due to its connection with early Material. Oh and his semi-prominent place in the Wyatt's biography Different Every Time: a book which—as is perhaps self-evident—I haven't gotten around to finishing yet.
Not that I hadn't at least heard *of* Camembert Electrique. Seems I have some remedial listening to do.referencing Banana Moon (LP, Album, Gatefold) 529 345
RIP Barry St John - her obituary led me here.
Like Delvap below I was 18 when I bought this as an import, probably from Virgin when they were just a mail order business. Nearly 50 years later it is still a favourite. I like the early Gong records but I love this one.
The story behind the record is Gong had booked time at the Marquee studios but Daevid and Christian were the only ones to get into the country. (Which is ironic considering why Daevid left Soft Machine).Daevid contacted Robert Wyatt who called around and assembled the band. That's Gary Wright's head which has been added to the picture of Daevid, Robert and Archie.
After a gig once I asked Kevin Ayers where the whole banana thing came from and he said "Canterbury being a commuter area we called it cornflake country and, well, you know how bananas go with cornflakes..."- Edited 2 years ago

Hello,
I was 18 when I bought the first version of this LP.
In those days, France was a fine place to live in, and was not yet a ruined country.
Memories memories...
Music today is always as tremedous than half a century ago. referencing Banana Moon (LP, Album, Gatefold) 529 345
I have had various editions of this album, but the one that I have right now which I am currently playing happens to be the 1979 Charly reissue.
I remember hearing it for the first time as my older brother played it when I was nine or ten years old, once he went out with his friends I entered his room and played his Caroline Records copy, needless to say, I was immediately hooked for the rest of my life, next up was Camembert Electrique and my life has never been the same since.
The musicianship is superb even though to me the quality sounds really rough, but hey, sometimes rough really works for some music, and this is the exact type of music where it does work.
A fantastic album for people of a strange disposition.referencing Banana Moon (LP, Album, Gatefold) 529 345
This wonderful album saw the light of day in July of 1971- Edited 3 years ago

i find the drumming on song one to be at a level of someone who has been learning drums for a month or so , the timing is all over the shop and is very distracting.
the strange thing is that i usually like pip pyles drumming even if it can seem a little wild and made up on the fly at times so i assume he is playing this poorly intentionally , thankfully it all seems to flow better for the rest of the album and overall i think it works .
this is an album i will be spinning until the grooves wear out.
despite the weird and shaky start i have to say it's a near perfect piece of art.
also , i can 100 % confirm there is no locked groove on track A6 as stated in the description , a locked groove means that the stylus will never reach the end of the song unless it's bumped out of said groove. referencing Banana Moon (CD, Album, Reissue)
DAEVID ALLEN - BANANA MOON (Decal CDLIK 63) CD 39m
Though this psychedelic album is from the late-60's it is relatively new on CD, in fact it was released in 1990. BANANA MOON shows Daevid Allen's sense of humour later to be found in Gong. Such titles as Fred the Fish and Stoned Innocent Frankenstein are examples of his humour, but as well as humour there is some excellent music. All I want is out of here is a rather straight forward track with a spacey guitar, deep grating vocals and a good steady beat from the percussion, essentially very little to this track which makes it even more effective. Fred the Fish, the one of humorous title is much like a pub song, a sense of "roll out the barrel" with a fiddle playing and laughter and chatting in the background. White Neck Blooze, of course a bluesy track, is very mellow with female backing vocals and a rather witty false ending. This CD is definitely worth listening to, great music and the sound quality isn't too bad either. Also it's worth comparing to his later work with Gong.
