- Edited 7 months agoBuy this just for the Salt Tank track it is a pure slice of hypnagogic ambient music you can really sink your ears into!
- Edited 4 years agoLove This Album!! This is the *one* that started it all for me. That one day when I had a few extra bucks in my pocket, and took a chance and bought those four albums of new stuff I had never heard of before: (1) United States of Ambience II (2) The Real Trip: Further Self Evident Truths, (3) Chill Out or Die America, and (4) Wagon Christ: Throbbing Pouch. Wow! Those albums changed my life! It was nothing but uphill from there...
- Edited 6 years agoThis compilation was so important for me at the time. It was the perfecting of this style. In 93 i was hearing a great mix of ambient and chill out music. This is sequencer music as i call it. Sequenced well. It means a lot to me. In fact i have it on all formats and the promo
- Edited 7 years agoAs reviewed by me in January 1995:
Summary: A very good, almost great ambient techno compilation from Moonshine Music. Who'd have thought?
Talk about having my doubts. I heard nothing but bad things about this label before I received their newer promos. The first United State of Ambience compilation seemed to be unanimously hated by those in the know, and the label's Journeys By DJ mix CDs were dubious as well.
Thankfully, between this and the DJ Duke CD, they've redeemed themselves. There are a few big names—One Dove and Orbital—, a few lesser known but equally talented artists —Influx (James Bernard), Salt Tank—, and a few newcomers getting broken in.
Highlights are the ricochet-reverbbed "Sixteen" by Grain, the LA genius who was also featured on Astralwerks' Excursions in Ambience 3; the astral "Dreamscape" by Rising High UK spaceman James Bernard; the sweet chords of "Deus" by the Los Angeles duo Electric Skychurch (who remind me a lot of Hypnotone); and the ambitious "Introspection part 1" by Stryke, from Florida.
Turkey tracks are the offerings by Aurora Borealis and Synthetix, whose attempts at ambient dub are, well, attempts. Not terrible, really, and maybe they're just outshined by the quality of the rest of the compilation. I do hope they get better, though.
Overall, a good compilation at a good price. Tip of the hat to Moonshine for coming through on this one. - Edited 9 years agoThus monster..
Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!
This is a great compilation;
its pure brilliant ambient trance extasy
my favorite tracks are the first track by Electric Skychurch, Stryke contributes again a masterpiece and the track after is a gut-wrenching fairy ambient stream - Salt Tank. The deep trancedub tune Synthetix (just a fine little melo but just great) and for sure Influx with the ambient mix of Dreamscape. Full points
