Moon Bong wouldn't be out of place if included in a Trainer Plaid compilation, which is a compliment. Same with Behind the smile which is one of a kind piece of perfect beauty only John Beltran would be capable of. Inspiring programming, soul in the machines

A very unique mix between Warp records idm, detroit techno mood (like B12) and the electronic funk that very few other people (Kirk DeGiorgio mostly, Ian O Brien) were mastering at the time. It has the same loose experimental quality of Steve Pickton's Phenomyna or Paul W Teebroke productions in one very specific style of electronica that sadly faded out.

Whoa this is a good album I stumbled upon after it was playing in a record store - get your hands on it if you can its a great mixture of tracks. Have always enjoyed music from Stasis and this one flies under the radar. Behind The Smile is the one you want.

Just discovered this gem nearly 18 years after it's release. It's lush.

Something of an underrated record I think, but this doesn't stop me from enjoying it. It didn't cost me a kidney either. The album is different from his (equally excellent) first full-length because of its experimental (or more soulful) take on drum programming which is a welcome departure from his regular work. Unlike many other artists who try to branch out, Stasis remains true to his spirit and gives us sublime tunes like 'Utopia Planetia', probably named after a particular spot on Mars where the 'Viking 2' landed. The track certainly feels inspired by this past event. It's also featured on As One's excellent mix album 'CheckOne' for X:treme Records which might give you a hint as to what the record sounds like. All in all it's more jazz, less tech without losing the soul.

I wonder what he's up to these days because we haven't seen much new material from Steve Pickton since this outing...
