If another future was possible, “Artificial World” would be its soundtrack.
“Like-Minded” people landing from the UK, encapsulating what tomorrow could sound like.

It was 1993 and we (sadly) all still lived with our parents. Steve came over to my mum's house in Ilford (respect) where we wrote and recorded "Wake Up World". I had stolen a children's poetry record from Ilford library :( which was read by a famous African American actress whose name escapes me, giving us the spoken word vocal. Steve and I collected records like crazy and we added a George Benson sample for the looping string part and then a well know 70's soul singer for the break beat. We played it to Peacefrog who asked for additional tracks to make an EP. This time, we recorded at Steve's parents house and we were joined by my brother Ian Phillips (double respect). At Steve's, we jammed out "Day World" and "Artificial World" as a trio.
The heyday of Essex techno when tracks were recorded in bedrooms with many a cup of tea supplied by various mothers. Salute to the moms of Steve Pickton, Nuron, Paul Smith, Ben Sims and the mighty Tony Esch.

This is just more proof that Steve Pickton is one of the best producers to ever come out of the UK. He's a legend and deserves more recognition. I wonder if he's even aware that his music is getting all this new attention.

lovely stuff, beautiful ambient techno/downtempo stuff. nice and spaced out, especially on the title track - beautiful meditation of 808 and dreamy pads to really lose yourself in. 'part II: atoms answer' is a cut everyone should check also. surprised to see the comment below about how this record didn't sell well. lush!
