Just bought this vinyl pressing after owning the cd since the day of release. I am happy to say it sounds amazing. Big soundstage, great dynamics and the pressing is dead quiet. I don't think I heard one pop whatsoever on all 4 sides. A far better album on vinyl than cd or digital. Mogwai is built on dynamics and an album like this truly shines on vinyl.
Great music and great pressing. Even with some really poor speakers the soundstage was epic. Crazy where some of the instruments sound like they're coming from when it's just stereo.

I think that I have a different pressing. Both records sound great to me. Remarkable, considering dynamics of this album. I am writing this while listening to the track "Letters to the Metro". It's clear listening. What I can tell you about my copy: [PIAS] label. Each runout is engraved "Rockact" with the side number. Side C adds "[email protected]".

The track Letters to the Metro is fucked up on this pressing. Distorted and unlistenable. Will be difficult to get rid of the vinyl. I hate bad pressings.
The track "Letters to the Metro" is really badly distorted on this pressing! Unlistenable! Some qualitiy management would have been nice.
I already liked and admired Mogwai, but this is the album that made me fall in love completely with them. And with their tour that year they inmediately became my favourite band ever. This is a great soundtrack of epic and subtle moments, loads of melody and their very well known noisy ups and calmer downs. Some critics blamed Mogwai to be on their confort zone here, as everything was already made in their previous "Young Team", "Rock Action", "Mr Beast", "The Hawk" and others in their (impressive) career, and I agree, it is not much different. But it just reaches me in a more powerful and direct way: the melodic and rhythm constructions of "White Noise", the electro epic of "Mexican Grand Prix" and the you-must-see-this-live "Raro Pano" play between guitars are an impressive beginning to a really strong bunch of tunes. There are synths, pianos, electric and real percussions, all kind of electric and acoustic guitars, strings, xylophones and even voices that sometimes are sweet, sometimes are happy and sometimes are wonderfully apocalyptic.
My favourites are those first ones, the krautrock influenced "How To Be A Werewolf" and the closing "You're Lionel Ritchie", which yes, sounds very similar to "Like Herod" at times, but again, I don't mind. These guys know how to make a theme, how to round it up, how to play with textures, and have one of the most impressive live acts you can find right now, and everything sums up in this "Hardcore will never die".
Some 2cds editions have a 23 minutes theme that is all dramatic unresolved tension and all beauty leaded by one of those Mogwai piano slow riffs. Reads generic, sounds incredible.
