Reviews
- can someone confirm all vinyl which have NOT 45rpm on header are on 33rpm? thanks ….. and do not ask why except you are an a** …. 😉
- The newest vinyl release of this album in Cryogenian and Statherian colors is still available on A Thousand Arms webshop.
- The varnish used in the booklet tend to make pages stick together, not ideal. The black CD is fragile and end up unreadable sometimes.
Take care of your item if you managed to get your hands on this one. - Beautiful release. Bit of surface noise upon dropping the needle. But the music quickly takes it away. The first LP may be a bit quieter than the rest? It could be the mix of the actual music, but I feel I noticed having to turn the volume up a bit more on the first two sides, not a major issue. Get this one if you can for a decent price.
- 2 out of 3 records are warped, but playable. the color variant looks pretty far from the promotional photos. I’ll probably avoid Pelagic Records in the future.
- Edited 3 years agoOk, I don't have the best equipment, but my washed copy sounds great. A bit quiet for sure, but otherwise little to no surface noise and only a few minor clicks especially on side B. I also can't detect any visible scratches on either side and compared to the cd version, I don't hear much difference sound-wise.

is this on 33 rpm or on 45 rpm, thanks for info!- Be careful! This particular pressing has bad audio quality and came with several audible scratches caused by a plant error. There is already another review at the time of writing that mentions similar problems as well. If you intend to get a listening copy of this album, DO NOT go for the ‘swathes of smoke’ edition (and from what I can tell, the other two editions ‘lava pools’ and ‘impact crater’ aren’t any better). Buy the black vinyl if you intend to listen to this album, buy the coloured vinyl if you don’t mind having a poor audio experience.
- Perhaps my sealed copy of the Swathes of Smoke version encountered some roughness on the trip to the U.S. from Germany, but this sounds like absolute garbage. I need to do some testing with the digital version but the dynamic range is awful--everything feels too quiet and the parts that should "pop" and get louder (after a quiet section) just don't. The 3rd LP is a bit warped and has a distracting amount of surface noise ("scratchiness" to noobs like me) as well as a minor scratch that's audible for the first couple minutes of side E. I'm not an audiophile by any means so the fact that I'm picking up on these things is particularly noticeable--it's the first album I've bought on vinyl that I've been a bit disappointed by. This album being one of my faves of all time may have something to do with it too.
The LPs themselves look fantastic, but after listening to this one I'd rather have 180g black vinyl that sounds excellent than a sweet looking one that feels flimsy and sounds like poopoo. - Anyone else having problems with the downloadcode? I always get the message, that the file has a malfunction...I wrote pelagic today and wait for an answer...
