referencing Numb (LP, Album) ARTY 3
This is the kind of industrial music you don't find anymore in today's scene. Numb's debut album is an explosive mixture of beating electronic rhythms, metal bashing, hardcore punk guitar riffs and furious vocals: Throbbing Gristle meets Einstürzende Neubauten? "God Is Dead" and "Lies" are two epic hymns of anger and brutality that make any NIN sound a bit cheesy in comparison, not to mention the fact that they were released two years before "Pretty Hate Machine". But, probably, these Canadians' most intriguing side is represented by the sordid, nocturnal, disquieting instrumentals, in which you find creepy synths, assorted noise, distant mumbling voices and a certain tense atmosphere, like a maniac waiting behind the corner with a knife, ready to stab to death the first person approaching. Rather underestimated and overshadowed by fellow Vancouverians Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly, they would deserve much more attention.
