Uriah Heep – Salisbury

I was 5 years old when this came out. In our family this music was played among other things. This is stored in your DNA. Great, I am happy that I have found a beautiful original from that time. For me worth having this in my vinyl collection.

While I can imagine a more exciting pressing, this does play very well, with only little surface noise.

I have exact matching runout matrix numbers and the front and back covers seem to match the pictures here but no Bronze logo. Instead it says "Stereo" and underneath "SR-61319" to the left of the spindle hole and "Side 1" to the right of the spindle hole.

This is a reissue probably from 73-74. The first press has a black label with grey font.

I read a positive review of the sound quality, so I gave it a chance, though I'd always tended to dismiss picture discs as fun collector's items that have little value as a listening experience due to the loud surface noise. Unfortunately, my prejudices were confirmed as soon as the stylus hit the groove: the disc had the loud noise floor that I dreaded, only marginally better than the cheap picture discs I bought in the 80s. The surface noise was especially distractingly audible through the quiet parts of "The Park." I don't consider myself particularly finicky, but I just can't recommend this pressing. Aesthetically, it looks swell, though, and the actual mastering of the music seemed fine, if you're not bothered by surface noise.

The sound of this cut is dull and uninvolving, not recommended!

Klassiker und absolut bemerkenswerter Gesang, mit dem Uriah Heep einen ganz neuen Stil prägte. Das Album Salisbury glänzt nicht nur wegen des Evergreen Hits Lady in Black, auch Bird of Prey, The Park und Time to Live sind einfach nur genial. 🤩 Die Orgel ist für mich genauso Kult wie die mega coolen Gitarrenriffs.

Dead quiet, yes. But I can't recommend it. The (European) reissue lacks the familiar dynamics, there's no beef in the bass department. Five stars for the recording, but three at best for the pressing.

God damn this pressing sound loud and hot! Clear audio, sharp stereo seperation, bass is deep, as vocals is up front. Great canadian pressing.

my favorite Heep album. the reissue sounds fantastic. the reproduction is very good. highly recommended. only downside: the LP is a dust magnet. i have this a lot with these new reproductions.
