"setting sun" remains one of my faverites takes on Magic Juan's "Starlight".
i never cared about "groove la chord" but "otill" and setting sun" is THE Aril I miss. - The original Transmat CD6 release is probably the best version for 'Departure In Time' album. The art/inlay's are of much better quality to look at and feel - this re-issue has bland art with a cheap photocopied printed feel to the inlays, even the disc art looks tacky! TRMCD6 also has 11 tracks that includes 'Ride' - missing on this re-issue. Also the track order brings a better listening experience on TRMCD6 when compared to the track order on this re-issue.
The re-issue is still worth buying for the10 track extra disc included, even if you already own the original. - Edited 5 years agoWhile the first Cd is perfect i can't find the same satisfaction with the second disc. The first one offers music that are more more deep, hypnotizing, and its sounds evoke summer night atmospheres. "Embrace" is my top track in this release. in the second disc tracks sound more funky, less deeper, my favorite track in this disc is "Fuknit" , a track that approaches more the style of the first disc.

This release has ''On And On'' and ''Headhunter'' replaced by ''Bytes'' and ''Aqua''.. Also ''Read Only Memory'' has been completely removed - why!? Odd that they re-released this but messed with the classic that was the original 1999 release. Also messed with the original artwork making this version an inferior(though sill quality music) release to the 199 Transmat CD6 original! - Edited 4 years ago

The re-issue is still worth buying for the10 track extra disc included, even if you already own the original. - Aril Brikha's DEEPARTURE IN TIME is considered by many to be a classic, and it's hard to argue: the smooth, Detroitian vibe of "Embrace" opens the album on a mellow but compelling note. Originally released on Derrick May's Transmat label (a mark of quality in and of itself), this reissue re-orders the tracks, and while the jazzy vibe of "Ride" is sorely missed, the additional tracks on a bonus disc helps make up for its absence. "Otill" brings up the energy a touch, though the tension between the rhythm and the long sweeps in the background keep the track flowing, while "Sweet Lullaby" pushes it further with a throbbing grace. "On & On" goes for straight techno, quick and lush, before "Setting Sun" returns to the more contemplative side of things. The title track leads the listener on a longer journey, slowly bringing in elements to contribute to the groove, and "Bytes" follows that tack. The refracting stabs of "Groove La Chord" lend themselves to a solidifying beat, while "Headhunter" winds itself up around a simple loop, and it leads into the steady thump and dub touches of "Read Only Memory." On the bonus disc, "Fuknit" kicks off with a solid drum, as the the synths bounce atop it, grounded by a funky bassline. The bass once again takes center stage on "Artoo," though Brikha hasn't abandoned his warm synths in the least. "City Slicker" is brighter, though putting it back-to-back with "Way Back," especially since they seem to share the same pad patterns, might have been an error, even if the latter track is quicker and more crisp. The wiggly "Rising Sun" offers a taste of sweetness, while some breaks spark up "Electrocity." And although "Tuff" seems to promise something rough, it still dances along the melodic edge set out before by the tracks before it; "Us (Part 1 & 2)," however, does change things up by staying solidly in a minor key, helping "Aqua" after it to dive deep into darker tones. "Lone Rider" slows things down in a simple dub techno loop to close out the album. Still seminal after all these years.

Not really sure why, with this release, they removed track 4 "Read Only Memory". It was on the original 1999 release. Although the track made a comeback in the 2011 remastered double album, albeit shuffled down to track 10. Either way, it's a killer track and it's omission - along with track 7 "On And On" - from this version, should make the choice of preference between the two easy. Get the 1999 CD. Superb Detroit sounds!
