- Edited one year agoPink Noise ~ Always on My Mind is an absolute banger on the Judge Jules Mix (Fanny Flow ~ Kiss of Life, Bangin too). Takes me way back to 1996 when House was real House and DJ's actually played vinyl !
- Edited 7 months agoSeamen’s mix here stands out. A shame it wasn’t longer.
Can’t say ever listened much to Derrick Carter mix - sounds a bit like a bus ride.
Tong - take it or leave it with customary bouncy stuff progressing into harder, trancier fare … T-Empo The Blue Room my favourite
First half of Jules is serviceable
After this comp there seemed to be a concerted attempt to get more tracks on this format… So #4 was pretty epic with Oakie’s mix - Edited 5 years agoBest one of the Essential Mix compilations so far, CD1 mixes smoothly between house and trance and both the mixes on this CD compliment each other. The first mix is quite housey, nothing too deep or boring though, it's mostly vocal stuff. It ends moving into more trancey stuff which sets the tone for the next mix which is some great progressive trance. Definately one of the better non-charty mix CDs from 1996. Tongs mix, again ghost-mixed by Charlie Brook at wise buddah.
CD2 isn't anywhere near as good in my opinion. The first mix on here starts out really well, but soon decends into wierd repetative booty house stuff, rhythm masters style. A shame, as it starts out really well and there is a promo-mix of Stretch and Vern - I'm Alive on here, it's very different to the official releases and I think it might be either (Like It A Lot Mix) or (Disco Dub) off this: https://www.discogs.com/Stretch-Vern-Present-Maddog-Im-Alive/release/167188
I don't own it yet, but will report back when I do pick it up! Either way it's a nice change to the regular mix that gets cained.
The final mix on here is deep house, techy stuff that I'm really not in to at all, again it starts really well; actually it starts REALLY well, with this acapella of a track I'd not heard before 'Blair - Life?'. I had a listen to the todd terry original on youtube and that's an amazing track if you like uplifting vocal house from 1995 amazed it didn't get on more mixes, and practically the only time it does in the 90s is this acapella! Crazy.
My ratings system:
(303 out of 500) A solid, well deserved 3 stars. Will definitely be listening to CD1 again soon! - Edited 5 years agoAnyone got any info on 2.05 (Fanny Flow - Kiss Of Life) ?
This version isn't on any of the releases, but there was also a Digital Blondes Remix (on Manifesto Christmas Crackers)
that doesn't appear on any of the releases on discogs. Any info would be great. Been wanting this tune since 1996.
