I have a brown/red promo copy (cut corner) that came with 2 band photos. One photo’s band lineup includes Donna Dresch instead of Gary Lee Conner. Also includes a photo copy packet of hype letter from SST and various articles about the ST.- This record is pressed on very dark red vinyl, looks really cool. I bought all of Screaming Trees’ SST releases on colored vinyl back in the early 00’s (when they were like $20 a pop, btw) and this one was by far the hardest one to find.
- Records released by SST actually sound pretty decent. The recordings aren’t perfect, it sounds like the engineer was trying to get it right, trying to figure out the right balance between Lanegan’s vocals and that screaming guitar from Gary Lee (some tracks sound like the vocals were mixed to stand out well over the rest of the music). Regardless, there is a nice, punchy drum sound and a pretty solid low end and defined bass. Sounds raw, lively and hectic and mimics the bands energy. Pressing is fine and plays without any issues. Overall sound is kinda lofi yet not. Just listen you’ll know what I mean.

There's a black pressing of this too, with the original kdisc matrix numbers (I own one). It was probably run after the brown/red pressings, but that's just a guess.referencing Invisible Lantern (LP, Album) SST 188
I really LOVE this group, but the mastering / sound quality on this album is pretty atrocious. I'm not sure if I have the original 1988 pressing or the later repress (mysteriously with NO year listed) I have a moderately sensitive system that is mainly designed to bring out a large soundstage and wide image, but even the tonal qualities are VERY squished and muddy. I mean, you can BARELY even hear the drums they are so muffled. It is honestly one of the most horrible masterings I've heard (out of over 2200 vinyl albums) At least it is not over bright or harsh, which WOULD be a lot worse... But, hey, if this is the only way to have the Screaming Trees, then so be it! :D
I would more highly recommend though, if you can find it, the album Uncle Anesthesia. THAT album is frigg'n CLASSIC! The sound quality still isn't stellar, but it is a LOT better than this one. Some of the DAMN best album cover art I've ever seen too :)referencing Invisible Lantern (LP, Album, Reissue) SST 188
