- Edited 22 hours agoThe ultimate Cure guitar album. They'd always had fantastic guitar bits in their albums but this one goes overboard with 3 guitarists including Bobbie and Pearl Thompson playing multiple jangly/fuzzy layered guitar parts occasionally in alternate tunings, just like Bobbie's shoegaze pupils were doing at the time. All of these rendered in great guitar tones captured expertly by Dave Allen in 3D technicolor stereo. This edition includes Lost Wishes which is a particularly ambient version of this sound.

Does anyone know how this 2022 2LP copy sounds compared to the 2022 CD remaster?
I only own the original CD plus FLAC's of the 2022 remaster, the remaster sounds way better to my ears than the original CD, which I never liked and barely listen to because of the production. Wish is the only album I love to listen more but just can't stand the sound. I like the remaster enough to buy it... But so many complain about the vinyl version!
Is this vinyl remaster really that bad? Is it worse than the CD remaster then?
Or do you just prefer the old sound of the original vinyl?
I do not find many usefull posts with actual arguments for their reasons referencing Wish (CD, Album) 61309-2
Great follow up to "Disintegration" and captures some of that record's gloom and doom, but then along comes :Fridays I'm In Love" which changes everything. The lead single, "High" is basically a rewrite of the song "How Beautiful You Are" from "Kiss Me...." and "Apart" could have fit easily on "Disintegration".
Overall, "Wish" is a perfect follow up to "Disintegration" but also signals a change in direction for the band.- Let’s call it what it is. A 12 inch low bitrate CD pressed on wax. It’s not horrible but it’s not great either. The vinyl itself is flat and silent so good job there but this album wasn’t recorded well to begin with. If you’re chasing that audiophile recording of this album keep digging. It’s CD quality at best with some added separation. They tried. And for what they were working with I’d say they did a good job. It’s just not a high quality product
- I love The Cure. Sadly, this is probably their last really, really great album. Not on par with Disintegration, but nothing ever will be on par with that album. But I digress. Wish comes with 2 CDs of extras, demos, and remixes. I love the 12" version of "Doing The Unstuck", which is tons better than the original, IMHO. It was already released on Join The Dots, but I can forgive the double dip. Really nice to have The Lost Wishes on CD finally, previously only available on a limited edition cassette tape. I can't believe how many demos Robert and Co. went through before they settled on the Wish album track list. An interesting look into the creative process. Can't wait for the deluxe edition treatment of Bloodflowers, which we will probably see sometime in 2045. Seriously though, why such a long wait between deluxe editions of these Cure albums?

After reviews here I'd ordered this picture disc. And I can't compare it to other releases of this album too, but for me the surface noise is clearly audible in the whole album. For sure the most time overlaid from music but in quiet songs and passages like in 'trust' or 'to wish impossible things' for example audible also in the background. On the other hand I'd subscribe that this release sounds really pretty good. Dynamical and clear. But I can't deny that I'm a little bit disappointed about the surface noise that narrows the pleasure of this fantastic Cure-Album a little bit.
But actually price tags for older versions comforting me about this and I don't know whether older versions (or other releases) comes without surface noise but with a sound like on this one.- Very pleased with my copy, no surface noise or skips. No warps or any quality control issues either. The remaster is pretty good too! Purchased at Bucket O’ Blood Records
- This would be the 2nd Deluxe Edition in a row that's not received the slipcase, the other being "Mixed Up".
At least the CD case dimensions for all releases are the same, with the exception of "Disintegration" which is slightly thicker. Maybe because it differed to the usual 2 CD set with 3 CDs? This "Wish" set reverts back the basic width, which is strange in a way as its a 3 CD pack. Yes robargea someone's done us dedicated old school fans a dirty. - I very rarely do this for the simple reason that most reissues these days are quite disappointing and sound flat and lifeless. There have only been a handful of instances where I have been pleasantly surprised by one. This is one of those. After being very disappointed by my 2LP reissue of Disintegration, I wasn't expecting much from this one, but this pressing sounds worlds better. The instruments sound alive individually unlike on Disintegration. The bass and treble seem equally matched which leads to no instrument getting lost in the mix. Especially on songs like Trust and To Wish Impossible Things. The jacket, which is not a space-killing gatefold, is done well and the heavyweight inner sleeves replicate the original inners to a tee. I highly recommend this pressing for anyone like me that doesn't have over $200 to spend on an original pressing of this. I think you will be pleasantly surprised as well by this more affordable solution.
- Edited 8 months agoFace it, this was never a well recorded album in the first place. So let’s leave the audiophile talk at the door. The remastering work done here is fantastic. The bass guitar almost sounds new. There is much added space around the vocals and instruments. The highs sound better than ever. This about as “audiophile” as this album can get, all things considered. Robert Smith, and GZ,breathed some new life into this album. Miles at Abbey Road did well with the lacquer. The pressing quality done at Precision is just ok (others seem to have had worse luck than me, and mine isn’t perfect.) The packaging is also barely average.
