I think this was one of the most underrated releases on Rephlex. Check out the tracks Hallo and Acidophilus on the A side ... they are so epic and beautiful.

Great release - find myself going back to it more than many other releases of the early 2000s.

Definitely sounds a bit louder than the original release. Is that all that was done?

This was the release that made me aware that Aleksi is no longer fooling around with making little amateur skit tracks. This Astrobotnia series was and still is the pinnacle of the Rephlex sound becoming more audibly refined and spiritually transcendent. The beats are so on point with groove and bass. The ambience melody layers....................are a whole new genre in itself. It is probably well known that he uses frequency levels on his note scales that are not of the tradition note scales of the west. You can download them somewhere, I haven't done it yet and I only have one synth that accepts these new scales. Master level composition tracks that harken the ambient masters of the 90s like Beaumont Hannant, Bola, Higher Intelligence Agency and Spacetime Continuum.etc.......

The sampled line "I want to kill everyone. Satan is good. Satan is our pal." throughout the track "Everyone" is from the 1989 Joe Dante movie "The 'Burbs" starring Tom Hanks and is spoken from the character Art Weingartner (played by Rick Ducommun).

Rumour had it Astrobotnia was one of Richard D. James's project, but eventually it turned out that it's Aleksi Perälä AKA Ovuca. As Astrobotnia, finnish producer released three gems of so called "braindance". "Part One" remains one of the best debuts in the Rephlex catalogue. It's like "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" on acid or a journey into space, sometimes disturbed by turbulences. If you dig Boards Of Canada, Plaid, Autechre and Arovane, you will simply fall for this one. Pure magic that is not to be missed.
