I have to agree with the other commenters. I've been avoiding anything from Plain but I really want to complete my Ween vinyl collection, so I went out on a limb and bought The Mollusk on black vinyl. I can confirm that it sounds digitally sourced—it sounds exactly like the CD—and it is by far the noisiest new LP I have ever purchased! Hisssss POP!

Only charted at #159 on Billboard 200 when the album came out in 1997. It is the first Ween album to make it on this chart.

This is easily one of the best albums. If songs like the title track, "Mutilated Lips", and their most popular track "Ocean Man" doesn't convince you I don't know what will.

I think Schnitzel records has done pretty damn good job on the LP reissues. I hope they do one for this album. Plain records is awful!

This amazing album deserves so much better. Knowing how much the band themselves are proud of The Mollusk, it's a shame that it doesn't have a proper release. Instead, we are forced to listen to this flat, non-dynamic, boomy, hissy, scratchy mess of a pressing. Hey! Plain Recordings! Pack it in buddy; no one wants your terrible records. Now excuse me while I dream of a proper pressing of The Mollusk (one of the greatest albums ever recorded) from the original master tapes by a competent manufacturer with the full Hypnosis art and lyrics on the inside sleeve and gatefold...

I know this thread is from 2016 i picked this version band new on amazon for like $10 its pretty clear i think it sounds good but I'm not an audio junkie. i don't hear static and there are no skips. No volume issues either.

Mine sounds fine to be honest, not a single surface noise the entire time. Sure, maybe it's CD sourced but I've got no actual problems with the sound of the LP

Plain pressings plain suck. Pressed from the cd, sounds terrible, lots of pops and surface noise on both black and green. Lesson learned.

Great album. Terrible pressing. Pops and skips from new. Dull lifeless sound. Don’t bother. I’ve got this one and the green plain recording and they are both terrible.

Agreed! Bought brand new and sounds like shit. Pops and crackles. Great album. Worthless pressing.

Plain recordings in black vinyl sound a lot better, worth a shot
