With sleeve art worthy of gracing one of his previous band's records, Morrissey introduced his Maladjusted period to the world with a single he later excluded from the reissued version of the album - Roy's Keen. A strange song, the way all of Maladjusted's songs are kind of strange - or somehow off-center. Morrissey's disdain of Roy's Keen seems similar to his dismissal of Tony The Pony - which is as good or better than any song on Kill Uncle.
Both B-sides here are absolute treasures - as beautiful as they come. Lost was a planned single - possibly canceled on account of Spencer Cobrin's departure from the band. Cobrin wrote the music. The keyboard is a little like The Cure, and there's nothing wrong with that. It suits Morrissey's message that everybody's lost, but they're pretending they're not. He should be singing this song in his concerts - could be a great singalong.
The Edges Are No Longer Parallel is a fascinating song title, and the song itself fascinates. Alain Whyte was on fire during this time. One amazing Morrissey song after another.
Morrissey may not care for Roy's Keen, but we can't always trust his opinions, can we?
