Harold Budd – The Pavilion Of Dreams

This is the first album I put on the morning after I finally did a hardcore leveling of my turntable. Our house is wonky and I never noticed by eye that there was anything off until I took a spirit level to it.

Holy…

The press is silent. I didn’t hear the needle engage with the groove when I dropped. I never broke immersion across the entire first side. Utter bliss.

Hard to say how the mastering truly is because I’ve never felt the urge to turn this album up past an average casual level, but one could assume it’s true to the source. It lays across the room like a warm blanket in its presentation.

Highly rec’d. Level your turntable and get lost.

Finding words to fully capture the beauty of "The Pavilion of Dreams" by Harold Budd is a challenge, as its ethereal quality transcends simple descriptions. Regarding this particular pressing, I am pleased to report that my copy arrived in perfect condition. The vinyl is flawlessly flat and plays quietly, with an excellent mastering that reveals no perceptible distortions. It features the original cover art and includes a few liner notes about the genesis of the album.

I highly recommend this version to anyone who enjoys tranquil and soothing music that steers clear of being categorized as New Age or Muzak. It's a serene auditory journey well worth taking. A resounding 5 out of 5 stars.

Could this be a European pressing? Bought mine in Amsterdam. Still don't get why the label of both pressings says 2021 while here it says 2022. But anyway, this edition is all good!

If the Exotica genre was allowed on Discogs, it would definitely apply here. Very obvious influence of Las Baxter and Martin Denny. Beautiful music.

this album, and also this reissue, is about as good as it gets

I have a copy I recently picked up which has the original 1979 "Obscure" labels on the disc, however the sleeve is the classic 1981 pink album cover. I have been unable to find a corresponding release, as all 80's copies with pink covers have the "EG Editions" label. On the sub-page for "Obscure", the image displays the pink cover, was this the case for select first presses?

I know that ambient music is NOT one of Analogue Production's shticks, but it would simply be amazing if they pressed older ambient titles in the UHQR series - especially this one. An absolutely fantastic and legendary ambient album that deserves a true AAA release in the near future.
