- Who’s got the 1983 version? Is the version of Antena’s “Seaside Weekend” the version this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xNbiNGMjtk (As compiled on Numero’s edition of “Camino del Sol”.)
- Edited one year agoit's a shame that the CD version of this compilation lost so many tracks from the vinyl. Where are The French Impressionists, Martin Hannett, The Pale Fountains and The Names? The 2007 CD reissue features The Names and Martin Hannett but dropped Dream Makers, Jez And Vini, Alan Rankine and Gabrielle Lazure! Even buying the double CD version, you still won't get all the songs from the original LP! What a disappointment !
- The best song is Thomas Dolby's Airwaves most of this album is awful. It doesn't hold a candle to Pillows & Prayers. I did enjoy the book that came with this. I had the cassette years ago that I did like
- Is there any way I can tell if my CD is the Belgium 1986 or 1999 edition. I cannot spot any difference? Cheers
- Edited 3 years agoI just stumbled onto this record ..The label co-founder Annik Honoré was none other than Ian Curtis' Belgian girlfriend in 1979/80. She started the label I suppose just after Ian's suicide. A host of very cool tracks from artists of the day including one by Martin Hannett Joy Divisions famous producer. Super find for a collector.
- 5 stars edition. buy with confidence from https://www.lesdisquesducrepuscule.com/from_brussels_with_love_twi007.html
at least 2 more stars - Edited 9 years agoNearly 35 years after it was released, it's pretty much impossible to appreciate how significant an album this was when it came out. By 1980, the post-punk era had set in motion a whole range of musical genres - electronic, industrial, lo-fi, ambient, goth, new romantic, raincoat, synth-pop... and this cassette offers a great snapshot of what was going on at the time. So many significant names - some were already established artists transitioning to new styles/audiences, some represented the cutting edge of new music, and some were destined to do interesting things. The Factory connection is unavoidable, but Brian Eno's presence and influence loom large. This compilation also heralded a new era for the cassette format in particular, and DIY/self-released music in general. Remember BEF's "Music for Stowaways", A Certain Ratio's "The Graveyard & The Ballroom", and Bow Wow Wow's "C30, C60, C90 Go"? And the numerous cassette-zines like Northern Lights and Fast Forward? Plus those 2-in-1 cassettes where record labels pushed back-catalogue, remixes, instrumentals and companion albums onto new cassette releases?
Anyway, while not all of the tracks on "From Brussels..." stand up today, it's hard to conceive of any compilation of this calibre being put out today - or not without feeling contrived or pretentious. Finally, it's worth noting that Les Disques du Crepuscule tried to repeat the formula with the 2xLP compilation album "The Fruit of The Original Sin" a year later, which mostly lives up to its predecessor.
